The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well, either you're a closet hunter jumper, or it isn't a real good test ;~D

The two questions about jumping I answered, I don't like to jump. And I don't like to go fast.

:) Well, even if it wasn't haunted, it was a cool old house. It would have been great to explore.

Hi all

I had a great ride today considering I haven't ridden in a month. I'm riding one of the new horses, Oliver, who is an absolutely adorable Appy. I just love him. He has a lot of controlled energy, but he isn't hot, so I don't have to worry about him being stupid. He has a very swinging walk and trot, and he's always thrilled about working. And he has such a sweet face, and really solid almost drafty legs. My trainer says he's 14.1 but I think he's a bit bigger. Either way, he's a great fit. I look really stupid on big horses, but I look just right on him. Appy's are starting to grow on me :-) He's very pushy, but he's not a bad boy, he just has no manners. My trainer told me that he was a petting zoo pony for a bit before he was started back under saddle, and for an older horse he is very green and doesn't have much balance.
But he is really great. I fell in love with him the first time I got on him. I haven't felt this way about a horse since my own. Some horses you just click with.

He's 11. He isn't much to look at but he has a cute face. I don't have any pics just yet.

I will! I have more free time this semester, so that means more barn time. I wish that I found him before my trainer did. :-p

I need some brain storming from you guys. I'm stumped. The antibiotics are working. Yesterday morning I couldn't run my finger by her inner right jaw line. It was very tight and hard. Today the tenderness down and the knot is more centered and softer. There is a problem though. I thought it was a little mud under her jaw but it's dried drainage or scab material. I cleaned it up and hair just came off in my hands. On the inner knot there is a whitish swollen area about the size of a marble. There is also two scabbed areas on her right inner jaw. Now she has drainage from both nostrils but it's not as purulent and thinner. I don't know if she opened it herself because of swelling or pain or if she got an injury that got infected. I'm calling the vet tomorrow to see if he wants me to give her a tetnus booster but I just have no idea what she's done. I'll try to get a pic tommorrow when it's light.

Strangles again? I do hope the vet gets out and looks at it, it sounds as though she never got over whatever she had before.

Is it her lymph nodes? Is she running a fever? Do you think that she could have gotten into a fight, especially since you said that there were scabs? Could she have burst some blood vessels? Do you see any puncture wounds? If I had to take a guess I would say that it was some sort of injury.
