The one thing everyone needs to remember vis a vis River being a super fighter is that she is psychic (suspend disbelief here). Imagine if you were both trained/programmed to be a killer and also knew what your opponents were going to do before they did it. This is the only way you'd get the type of martial arts results seen in all the kung fu movies, and that's usually not part of the story line.

"Actually family and love is at the core of this movie. Simon is ready to give up everything for love of his sister."
I re-watched the entire series before I saw the movie, and you're right. When the show originally aired, I didn't care one way or the other about Simon. But after watching the series, I've become impressed with the character's devotion to his sister.
I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it, but, why'd they have to be the ones to go?

I saw it. Don't pay full price. It's worth matinee or wait for DVD.

I saw it at a Sunday Matinee, and I would have really enjoyed the movie, but it was so depressing.

Any word on how it is doing? Well enough to expect a sequel?

Right now it is at #2, however it only made $10 million :( .. I expect the movie to make more money via dvd...

Actually family and love is at the core of this movie. Simon is ready to give up everything for love of his sister. She risks her life for him because in her confused mental state her love for her brother is the only thing that she still has to cling to.Exactly.

Hopefully, it has some staying power. We sci fi fans tend to be pretty loyal.

I saw it at a Sunday Matinee, and I would have really enjoyed the movie, but it was so depressing.Part of what made the movie good IMO. You have this guy doing whatever it takes to protect his sister, and the crew of the Serenity up against a sadist who is hell-bent on getting River back, and of course the Reavers as well. Raw emotion. It was not suger-coated like a lot of hollywood movies.

Don't get me wrong, I get that. Serenity was a good movie on many levels. The acting was decent, the plot was interesting, and the special effects looked great. I liked the movie, and I'll spend $20 on the DVD. I just walked out of the theater bummed. It wasn't an upbeat movie, and it wasn't supposed to be.

Only 10 million!? I guess the 80 million required for a sequel was asking a lot. I think the production company was hoping for $15 million on opening weekend; it still has ime to get up to a $50 million threshold. And yes, DVD sales can certainly turn this into a much different story. I think its a little early yet to write off sequel possibiliites, though the numbers are a tad disappointing.

Think about.. A virus could wipe us out.. War could wipe us out, an asteroid could wipe us out, or basically Earth just dies out.. The human race needs to explore different worlds
