Just watched Shepard Smith having and absolute tantrum on Fox News The O'Reilly Factor, complaining that reliefe did not come to the specific spot he was standing.
Petulant, Arogent, Demanding, and bitter. He's totally lost it.
What a whiner.
OT: Dari looks great on the air right now; Gerta looks like a 12-stepper.
grandstanding:
Main Entry: 3grandstand
Function: intransitive verb
: to play or act so as to impress onlookers
- grand·stand·er noun
That's absolute nonsense. The correct term to use to describe it would be "inadequate"; it's accurate, precise and omits the agenda-charged hyperbole. The emergency response has been massive, even though flawed and insufficient. The problem is that the scope of this disaster has been even more massive.
OR it could be he'd like people to see just how dire the situation is.
The Big Questions for me are,
Why is he still at Fox?
Doesn't Rita have any influence with her bosses?
Why isn't anyone stepping on Shep's chain?
Your words:
I think flagging down a police officer and demanding that he take a 5 day old baby, her mother and her family to shelter, food and water is really helping. We kind of saw him do that. On camera.
"Hey cop - I demand you take this baby (& etc.) to shelter; and also see how dire their situation is (or, "...so people can see how dire their situation is")"?
Oh , yeah - "We kind of saw him do that." ???
I could rationally imagine that the cop had a pretty big to-do list of his own and it didn't include conversing with something that should have been on the Golgafrinchan B-ark.
(plainly: I'm sure the cop was already committed to doing something and didn't need to be 'used' by some news-trinket)
Neck; not chain.
Could he be suffering from Stockholm Syndrome?
To clarify, It has not been 6 days since people have needed assistance in New Orleans.
Perfect example, if he did it once, why not do it all day, every day for the past three days? I surely would if I had his position and access to the media.
Like many more positions than we should admit to, anyone reporting from NO is damned if they do; damned if they don't. If they leave, they are cowards, no integrity...just a pretty face and hair, no sense of humanity involved. If they stay and report, they are playing to the masses. If they flag down a passing cop, they are grandstanding, if they let the cop pass by, they are wasting the resources of a satellite truck. It is a no win situation. Oh, yeah...and try not to get shot.
"It was mentioned on Smiths show that I-10 west is flooded."
Buses, trucks, cars and Military vehicles are coming in from somewhere and those are using I-10 to get to New Orleans.
I believe that able bodied adults could at least walk out along those road that these vehicles are using to get in.
Waiting in New Orleans is stupid, it is not going to be fixed any time soon and it will be without power for a long time.
Get everyone out.
Actually he did it earlier in the day with some of his crew. Not live. Then they showed it later in the day.
And yes, I'm sure the cop was busy. Shep and the cameraman have been showing the cops patrolling back and forth for the past couple of days in their cars. One cop in each car, just driving by. Checking on things.
When people flag them down to ask them questions, they don't have any answers to give them, and they also don't take anyone in their cars with them...just like Shep. Want to jump on the criticism band wagon of them?
I think I would be absolutely bonkers also were I there seeing this in person.
I disagree.
I still respect him highly.
He's saying that things under his pervue are hideous beyond excuse and need immediate attention by SOMEBODY.
I don't blame him. I'd be screaming, too.
That's what I think too. I guess it's easy for people to sit in the luxury of their homes and believe that these journalists should be either saving all of those people one by one or coming up with monumental solutions to these monumental problems when really their jobs are to tell the American people what's going on...In this case, Shepard Smith can't help but be frustrated and emotionally involved in the suffering he is seeing and I, for one, don't blame him. There's nothing he can personally do about it except TELL US!!
Some people just don't get it.
I'm off!
My local paper printed a map showing parts of I-10 west flooded, and the entrance/evacuation route for the downtown area as Highway 90 around the south part of the city, entering at the bridge next to the convention center.
But by all means believe what you want.
my point wasn't so much what Shep was wearing, but that he had options the others on the bridge didn't .. so he wasn't being "arrogant... demanding..." etc for himself but for those who were seriously suffering. I can't fault that.
Shep says there's hundreds and hundreds sitting there.
How many looters do you suppose are lying in wait on I10?
Certainly not enough to stop Shep's crew when he drove in there every day.
Every heard of safety in numbers?
No, I'm sure they're doing what they're told to do, and they only have what information they've been given. And I'm sure they're working; because all the Dunkie-D's and Krispy Kremes are incapacitated.
