I was impressed at how well the characters came through in two hours. I almost felt like I'd seen the show, they were that well drawn.

Yes, I was really impressed with the directing and writing... except for the little bit at the start introducing River and her brother (which basically recapped the major story arc of the first season) they didn't have to do a lot of explaining or back-tracking.
