Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Evening Corin - we lift 'em and cut off the foliage when it dries out. We store them in the garage part of the basement.

It's a new show about an unknown creature in the ocean.

Well, we spent most of the day feeling like someone took our bodies out on the town last night and tied one on. Not sure why, but we both felt hung over...
But we watched the rest of '24'. and cleaned out the barn, so that's something ;~D

Just got home from seeing
Serenity... would say, it's the best movie we've seen this year. Liked it a lot, and hope it does well enough at the box office to allow Joss Whedon to make another movie or two.
Thinking on it and discussing it afterwards, Rose and I have decided that the movie was likely what would have been the second season of "Firefly", condensed into 2 hours.
Jen, as for it being science fiction... well, yes, but: you did know that the whole concept is basically the post-Civil War Western Frontier, grafted onto outer space... didn't you?

Watching "Surface" here now... we recorded the first two episodes, but watching the repeat will save us the trouble of watching the recording. ;)

The thing I can't figure out, in a culture as tech savvy as the Asian culture, is why they grew up eating rice and didn't invent the spoon.

Inventive use of the old chopsticks there. Considering some Japanese get the vapors if you use the chopsticks to spear your food, they'd be apoplectic at the sight of those kids! ;o)

I see. I can't even attempt another series. I'm just waiting on the next version of 24 to come out on DVD.

And then you'd have to get a pony.

Yup! But that doesn't mean it doesn't have what I consider most important for SF: sensawunda and the truly indomitable human spirit. And the "Serenity" was the most beautiful spaceship I've ever seen. Not in her lines, but the way she threw herself at the sky or hurtled into atmosphere. Like she was defying the universe to take her out.
I need the show just so I can gaze at that ship some more. Also the captain is cute.

You keep reminding me of old jokes...
"There must be a pony in there somewhere!"
To: Bear_in_RoseBear; HairOfTheDog
I thought of that joke too.
Wife is bringing dinner home for me. I hope I'm still alive to eat it when it gets here...

It's a fun show.
I can usually only half-watch anything because of the kids, but it's enjoyable nevertheless.

Yep, it was a good series, and a lot of interesting plot and character development had to be left out to squeeze things down into a single movie.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Rose and I have decided that the movie was likely what would have been the second season of "Firefly", condensed into 2 hours.I think you're right, and I'm almost positive I heard Joss say something like that at one point during an interview.
I love the whole 'frontier' feel of the show!

LOL!! They DO have spoons, they use them for soup, they just don't use them for rice. Mystifying, that's for sure.

That's right! They do use spoons... Well, then... the sticks make even less sense.
