The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I have one of the bacon racks, but can't use it because the rotating jobber in my microwave can't be turned off and it whacks the door of the microwave!

:-(

I'm trying to find a low flat dish to put over that turning thing so I can set the bacon cooker on it and it won't turn.

Back. I deem it...pretty decent. It's a bit crowded, but then, anything more than a person or two is a crowd to me. Decent selection, though due to said crowd, I didn't explore as much as I might have. Prices aren't as low as ye olde booke sale back home. A dollar a book is the typical, with brand new hardcover books going for two or so. No ancient paperbooks for a dime apiece, in other words. Some are fifty cents, but that's about as low as it goes.

I got a few things, but will be happy to go back. I didn't really look at novels, and I'd like to look more through the literature section. They had the first two volumes of Kristin Lavransdatter in paperback, and I'm thinkin' that may mean the third one is there somewhere, if I can find it. I'd prefer hardback, but I guess that'll be next year's birthday present to me. (It's my birthday present to me...I'm sooo happy!)

Have I mentioned that I really, really hate the hand lotion ninja? He jumps out of NOWHERE, brandishing that bottle. Scary. Usually I just wait until he's distracted by a gaggle of girls, but girl gaggles were in short supply today.

Well at least you aren't demolishing peasant villages to build yerself a swimming pool, that's all I'll say.

The lotion ninja does not attack me. I deaden my aura when he's around and he can't sense my presence.

Gah... I need to run to the grocery store, I think I am going to hang with the geeks tonight and I'd really like to bring cookies. Basically I want to bake cookies. But have I got time to get home, go shopping, hit the booksale, and bake, all before 6ish?

Even if I stare in other directions or glower, he still comes at me. And when I say no, he says "Have a nice day", but in a tone of voice which implies he WAS going to give me the antidote to the Always-Deadly Fort Collins Plague in lotion form, but now...well, it's just sad that I wasn't willing to be helped. Such a shame.

Or you could bring the cookies I made.

Would it help if I went grocery shopping right now, or am I too likely to forget things? ;-)

I figured it out!

The thing that turns inside my microwave is just a little gear that a plate sits on with wheels. I can remove the wheels and plate, but the gear still turns.

So I remembered I had a MicroWare pan (like a square jelly roll pan) that I had bought and it didn't fit inside my little microwave. So I removed the plate and wheel from the microwave, inverted the pan on top of the gear that turns and it forms a perfectly flat surface that doesn't move for my bacon cooking platter!

See? Here's the baking sheet like I've got. Inverted it over the turning gear in the bottom of my microwave and my bacon dish fits right on it.

I really love the cookware. It can go in the oven too and it's very strong.

I've gotta start watching more old movies.

Working midnights is helping me towards that end. Notice the small LCD in the lower right corner. It's a Kowasaki dual-screen, dual-remote, dual-drive car DVD player. I'm watching Arnie's "Last Action Hero" on my half of the system, my partner on the other side of the half-cubicle is watching something else.

Right now, I'm starting watching all of the LOTR EE versions with the director/writer soundtrack. This is something I'd never have time to do at home. And all I have to do is pray for a slow night.

Nice set up! That will sure help on those nights when absolutely NOTHING is happening and time would just drone on!

I saw a personalized license plate this morning: SYCO WMN.

How psycho you gotta be to put it on your car? Pays to advertise, I guess. Or warn.

Well, the help desk (and my job) goes away November 18, 2006. So I'm going to get caught up on all my movie watching before then.
