I saw an interview with Alan Tudyk ('Wash') on Spike TV the other night. Apparently he's doing "Spamalot" on Broadway, right now! I don't know which character he's playing, though.
Lancelot. I dunno the play, but I did see that on IMDB.

I was more disappointed by the Shepherd's death, as I think he had the more mysterious and interesting backstory. There had been hints that Wash was doomed in the first season episodes that were shown... for instance, in the episode shown on SciFi last night, Wash and Mal are captured and tortured. Wash was clearly shown to be a "weak link", good as a pilot but not a tough fighter on the ground.
As for Shepherd Book, there were lots of hints in the series that there was more to him than he let on. There was some hints in the movie as well, during his conversation with Mal when the ship stopped at Haven (before the planet was attacked). I would have liked to have seen what got the Shepherd to leave the ship and settle on Haven...
I think the first season of "Firefly" would have ended with the revelation of River's true nature as a living weapon; there were lots of hints in the series but nothing definitive was said in the episodes filmed. Season 2 would then have revolved around the growing threat of the Reavers, ending with the revelation of how they were created. I think any follow-on movies will be about the growing destabilization of the Alliance, possibly leading to a second civil war...

Though you could try a smaller challenge along with us... write 500 words a day for November, rather than our 1667 average, maybe.

I'm continuing my grand tradition of not really thinking of a plot until about November 2nd, when I literally dream one up 'cause I'm worrying about it and have all kinds of crazy stuff running through my head.

So for tonight, I'm just writing in my journal and listening to Madeleine Peyroux.
Yeah, I did a google search and saw he was playing Lancelot. It would be worth it to see it again with him in that part. Hank Azaria was a hoot, and I'm sure Alan is even better!
I agree with your ideas. I'm wondering if The Shepherd was something like The Operative in his life before he became a Shepherd. His character reminds me of Brother Cadfael, who was a Crusader before he took the cowl in his early 50's.
But it's a good cult... it's the Cult of Writer Wannabees...
I called home tonight and my one sister was quizzing me on how complicated my life is and she said something about "and you're still planning to do that writing thing?". I admit, it's crazy, but it's good crazy. Really.
Well, we were using a little shock treatment on her whenever she showed any interest. Vader hadn't been as interested in them but may have been turned to the dark side after what her sister did.
G'nad is off to work for the night and I'm off to bed...it was a bitter sweet day.

Yeah, that one episode when he was shot and they took the chance to turn him over to the Alliance doctors. When the Alliance soldiers came on board Serenity, Shepherd told them to check his ID, and they became quite solicitious at that point. Made me want to know more about his background!
