Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

You could be right, Katrina has dominated the news. Most of the flags up are by those of us that fly in regularly.
I know most people around here have them since they flew them a lot in years gone by.
Still the 9-11 has competition for attention including Katrina and, around here, the Chiefs.

The kcredstar aka fishwrap, has lead stories of the local and county emergency plans. A total of 40 million dollars has been spent to draw them up. The gist of which is "decisions can't be made until the disaster strikes, that's why they aren't written in stone." or "We'll (emergency managers" all get together and decide what to do".
Sounds like the YOYO plan : "Yer on yer own".

Well, OT, you missed quite an air show, a flight of A-10s is apparently going to do a fly by at the Chief's game. I was outside watering the garden, and heard 'em coming. LSA, I and the rest of theshire was treated to quite an airshow. They were flying low, and apparently using the old mill as their turn point. Came in from the south west, banked right over town and headed out south east. Must have a made a dozen or so passes. Flying in pairs. What a wonderful sight. God Bless the Pilots and all those who serve.

Sounds like a plan made up by a buncha yoyos.

The gist of which is "decisions can't be made until the disaster strikes, that's why they aren't written in stone." or "We'll (emergency managers" all get together and decide what to do".After the Great Blackout two years ago, it was discovered that Macomb County's "emergency command center" was a room in a leased county office with a phone jack, a table, and two chairs. I guess $12 million in post-911 emergency funds doesn't go very far.
Wayne County's $50 million in emergency equipment is stored in five semis hidden behind county buildings at Metro Airport. They are supposed to contain firefighting and medical equipment and radios. Nobody knows for sure because they're under lock and key.
Except for about a dozen $16K generator systems, which wound up installed at the homes of county bigshots (all RATs). They took them because, "we have important duties in an emergency, and we don't want to worry about our homes and families while we manage the emergency".

WinMag: Well, considering the political make up our county as well, I would not be surprised if a similar situation exists here.
rosie; it's not original, I borrowed it from a book, but it is appropriate. Make your own plans and take care of yourself in an emergency. Each person has different needs and they should plan accordingly. Around here it is ice storms and tornadoes, that forms the nexus for our plans. We could bug out but plan to shelter in place.

Katrina shows that nature is more powerful than even the federal government, and that human nature can fall a lot father, faster. If faced with a cataclysm, my plans will include a scoped rifle.
