The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I assumed they were all hardy:). Because I've bought them every year and asked if hibiscus came back and was told yes. Mine didn't make it in the past because both times I tried I had pups around that ate them to the ground during the winter.I found white ones at Wal mart, and a dark wine colored ones at Lowes. I think that may be the only choices in the hardy type.

well truth be told, we just clipped OK (waved at Beckys Dad), clipped KS, and clipped MS on route to AL. It was fun for the girls to write where they had been and follow the map. : )
I would like to visit a lot of other states too, such as CO and Montana, Washington.

It's not sauna like here... we aren't as humid as you are :~D... it's 68 and a little breezy here. But I might be done... Still having pain in my feet from that pulled arch, so I don't want to push it. I'll do one tank of gas every day till I'm caught up.

It's a push mower, but it's self-propelled... that helps a lot.

Good point, if she lived down here, but it's probably not humid enough where she lives to qualify for that one.

Do you have a lot of snow in the winter?
Your climate sounds a bit like the UKs

It might be similar to the UK. We don't get a LOT of lingering snow, but it usually snows a couple times per winter, and each time lasts a few days. Last year, we didn't get any.

That really surprises me. I thought your winters there would be alot worse. I guess because your so far north.

Our temperatures are milder because we are very near sea level and near the coast. Since the ocean and Puget Sound remain 58 degrees all year round, it tends to cool us in summer and warm us in winter. 1-2000 feet up, an hour from here heading East toward the Cascades, of course, the get snow that stays all winter. Eastern WA, on the other side of the Cascades, has snow that will last all winter. The West side is milder.

Scotland gets very harsh winters with deep snow, whereas the south of England is much milder, snow sometimes during the winter and cold enough for gloves/hat/scarf from November on to March, lots of ICE in both places, but South warms up quicker than Scotland. Wales has the most rain, but it is beautiful and South West England, Cornwall is the hottest.
Only 1 poisonous snake, rarely seen, the ADDER.
Skating on ponds is the norm for about 2 months of the year! : )

This state really varies... right where we are, we'll get a few 'cold snaps' that last long enough to be a pain, with frozen water hoses and things, but our winters are mostly cold rain. Sometimes the cold snaps are nice just to freeze up the ground and get a break from mud!

But it's rarely colder than 25 here, usually warming up to a little above freezing by day, we don't get the bitter cold that would make keeping horses really hard.

Hi everyone - I finally caught up on posts I think, but if I miss mentioning something important, let me know, I probably didn't see it.

Tuffy is being weaned, we seperated him from mom on Sunday. He's doing fine and learning to lunge and his voice commands.

Frog - the staircase amazed me before when you posted it. I look at it and think no way would I ride down that, but in retrospect, I guess it's no worse than some of the rock trails we go down.

Hair - Sweetie is such a pretty thing, I must have missed why she's there. Are you boarding her? She's much better off by herself. Speaking of places I wouldn't ride - your bridges are right up there near the top. Especially after reading in the news about dogs jumping off of a bridge. I'd be on the horse that decided to do that.

Rose, I am so glad to hear about your new home. I'm praying that all goes well and events move rapidly. I love the puppies :) and would love to play with them if you were closer. I keep telling myself however, I need another animal like a hole in the head.

Becky - thanks for the play day pictures. That looks like a seriously pregnant mare to me. One of my neighbors little boy (he's 12) rides all over the state and does pretty good. His mom rides barrels also and makes some good money, usually enough to pay expenses.

Hope everyone is fine. I haven't seen any posts from Cindydawg for awhile, is all okay with her?

Thanks for the info. That surprises me about the Orlando area. I thought places would be out of sight, because of Disney. You could rent a very nice place here for around 600-700/mo. Of course this is Ohio. I am still thinking about a 5th-wheel too. Decisions, decisions.

Unfortunately, 600-700/mo in Miami will get you an efficiency or small one-bedroom apartment.

Single family homes are no less than $1200/mo. Townhomes (attached structures) are slightly less.

You can find some real bargains around Orlando because the area is saturated with time-shares and vacation rental properties.

The earlier you call to reserve a place, the better the rate.

I've seen CindyDawg posting around the forum.... I hope she's not staying away on purpose.... I'll take a shower, maybe that will help. :~D

Sweetie is only here for a few days... My friend Tiff is horse camping and took her other horses, which would have left Sweetie alone. So she's better off here than all alone at home and only a farm sitter coming by to feed.

She was born last year at Tiffney's... to the mare Tiff bought/rescued who was about to foal at only 2 years old herself. It was a pregnancy that never should have happened, but she's gonna be a nice little horse. Her momma is going under saddle now on trail, and she's doing alright. She even continued to grow a little more when the baby was weaned.

She and her momma are both pretty. The dam might continue to grow/mature until she's five. You're right, she should never have been bred so young.

She was evidently left turned out in a group of other babies... fillies and colts... by someone who didn't realize they had become breeding age.

There were three pregnant mares (fillies) being sold quick before they foaled... and evidently more than a couple possible dads that were also in the group. All QH types... Unknown breeding.
