The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Happy Birthday!
Is it Corin's too?
To: Overtaxed
We aren't sure bout that; besides purple and white is great for Kansas afterall those are the K-State "Every Man a Wildcat" colors.
We'd ping Little Freeper or SuziQ, they are doing 'series' decorating/remodeling.

I've got a whole gallon of purple eggshell in the garage...but I don't really like that purple.
I picked up a little decorating booklet at Home Depot. They had a periwinkle-type blue that looked good with silver fixtures.

That's true enough bout the grackles, LSA found another headless sparrow in the flower bed. Dang birds.
To: Corin Stormhands
Purty bird! We've seen something similar at times in our yard, but I don't know if it's the same.

That is a great looking garden.Thank you! I hope someday I'll have a garden like that. Gotta lot of construction to get done before then.

Yes! We share a birthday with Tom Cruise! Isn't HE lucky?
Oh, BTW, we saw a trailer for PJ's new movie, King Kong the other night when we saw War of the Worlds. Looks pretty cool!

Good evening! Back from the movie....
It was ok... very competent. Rose liked it a lot more than I did, but I think I just wasn't in the mood to see a "mankind is doomed and there's nothing we can do to stop it" kind of movie.
The special effects were excellent, and there were a lot of tense and downright scary scenes; I think it was very truthful to the book, although I think there was one scene borrowed from the 50's movie that wasn't in the book at all (haven't read the book in about 25 years, so I'm not sure).
Anyway, if you're looking to see a scary thriller, I would recommend it!

Happy Birthday!
Saw the trailer for "King Kong" here too, and it didn't look too bad; looked like it was set in the 30's, which I liked.
We also saw the trailer for "Serenity" when we went to "Batman Begins" the other night... now that looked seriously good!
By the way, Miranda Otto was in "WotW", playing Tom Cruise's ex-wife.

Thanks, hon! Glad y'all got some berries with the kids. My sister had some huckleberry bushes in her back yard. They were good.

Yeah, it was good to see Miranda Otto in modern clothing. She did a good job in WoW!
We can't wait to see a HUGH trailer for Serenity!! We were thinking of waiting to see Batman Begins when it comes to the beer drinkin theater. Should be sometime in the next month. Maybe it will be here when both the older boys are home; that would be fun. Our #1 son is the one who turned us on to "Firefly". I found the whole set of DVDs at Amazon for about $35.

From the trailer, it looked like they're going to be re-doing some of the story that appeared in the TV episodes... I guess they would have to, since not everyone would be familiar with the series.
Can't wait to see it!

Whoops, I thought that was your garden. We can't place the red flowers in front; otherwise, that grouping would be viable here. Very nice composition.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear; SuziQ
Thanks for the reviews, haven't read the book either in a good long while.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
I'm just not sure how it can be faithful to the book if it's not about a middle-aged English intelligensia type who's searching for his wife and doesn't have kids... but I haven't read the book in a while either so I may be forgetting...

Sure, there were differences, but lots of similarities too. The opening narration was taken verbatim from the book, for instance. Of course, the end is so cliche' that it isn't really believable to today's audiences... not to me, anyway.
