The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Jack knows, and Locke does, and they were both at the plane. You'd think they might have realized there might be a problem.
Oh, and he told Claire but that was before she got amnesia.

We're overdue for a new thread, I know.... but I thought I'd wait till after the 'thon.

Weren't they both carrying dynamite? I suppose neither one wanted to start a fire right then...
Rose and I are thinking of going to see "War of the Worlds" tonight.

Locke to Jack to the plane before they went after the dynamite, right after Jack had a hissy-fit about what happened to Boone. It was Sayid and Charlie who found the plane at about the same time as the French chick showed the others to the dynamite.
Sayid didn't know about Charlie's problem, that was obvious. Wonder whose side he'll come down on, Jack's or Locke's? Of course they may have to just work together after they release whatever's in that hatch...
Remember when Locke said he though "hope" was in the hatch? I immediately thought of Pandora's Box...

Here too! And I think that was a deliberate allusion on the part of the writers. I read on a fan site that J.J. Abrams (series creator/writer/producer) has said that the first season covers the first 40 days on the island, and that yes, that number *is* significant. Of course, that period of time pops up in many Biblical stories...

40 days and nights, huh? There are a lot of allusions, Biblical, mythological, and otherwise - heck they even made a "Harry Potter" quip. That makes it a lot of fun...
Heh, yeah, they're all alphas. Not a lot of moldable personalities among the main characters. I suppose the other characters might be less so... which is why we don't focus on them. That might actually be a reason I like Sawyer, he's the only alpha male who doesn't want everyone to do things his way.

The cast setup is interesting... the large number of "background" survivors means that they have a ready pool to draw from if the writers need a "red shirt" (Mr. Arzt, for instance) or if they need a new "regular". Rumor is for next season some of those "background" survivors will move up to "regular cast member" status.

Heh, isn't it refreshing to see someone who doesn't play nice with the other kids, once in a while? Mostly Sawyer's just a jerk, though.
And yeah, I saw the whole Arzt thing coming. I think Boone made some comment to Locke about "red shirts" when they were wandering around the jungle... he was afraid he was the red shirt... they can't kill too many of the red shirts, though, it wouldn't be believable.

yard is mowed and all the power equipment is stowed...all safe for the bunnies to come out.
Looks like we've got storms incoming.

Got me some kefir to try out! I've been reading most of the day and was feeling antsy, so I walked over to the natural foods store just to get out and use up some energy. Also got cayenne pepper...how I survived this many months without it, I dunno. Heh...
Going to try some of the kefir later. It's blueberry - Lifeway brand.
Looks like I may have gotten back just in time - the wind is picking up out there and it's starting to get darkish. Hope we get a good show instead of having the storm pass by before it starts, which seems to happen an awful lot.

Mmmm...blueberry kefir!
Mine is going like gangbusters, after giving me so much grief! It was taking 48 hours to ferment, this last batch took less than 24! I'm being inundated!
Guess what's at the cheap cinema????? FINALLY??
Hitchhiker's Guide!!
I've never seen it. Now it only costs .50 so we're all going probably tomorrow afternoon.

I think you'll like it. I thought it was really funny. I look forward to buying it when it comes out.

I've never even got the chance to read the book yet...said I was gonna and never did.
Kinda glad.
The book'll likely be better, but it won't make me enjoy the movie less.

It might only help you get more of the jokes.... some of the lines go by pretty fast, and the humor is subtle.
