I just got my first speeding ticket doing 39 in a 25 zone. I rarely drive the car and I should have known better.
Since this is my first, do insurance companies raise rates for the first ticket, or is it better to go to all day drivers school?

Well, I would just like to say that every time I attempt to do the speed limit I have people on my ass and flipping me the bird! Driving one inch from my bumper will not cause me to drive faster! Just try going the actual speed limit down a secondary road and see what happens!
Or asking them if they think they will pass the weight/tape test with spending so much time at Krispy Kreme.
Your insurance company may charge you points on your next renewal, and then again it may not make any difference. It depends on the insurance company as they all rate differently. The only way to know is to ask your agent.
They don't really blow-up, they slowly loose compression until day it floods out on start up. Engine is only good for 100K max. They are fun to drive, especially with a couple of turbos, but I have to say there is no substitute for cubic inches. ;)
Yeah, the seals go. I've got one with 48,000+ miles on the engine and another that I'm dropping a factory remanufactured engine into with about 35,000 miles on it....

I decided to attend the school.
I went to the bank to get the cashier's check and the woman asked if I was going to driver's school. She said many people come in asking for this same amount.
She said she had to go and you do nothing but sit there and listen to the person conducting the class. No tests.
Sorry to disagree but my wife just got nabbed doing 68 in a 45 by a municipal cop. (they had just changed the speed limit in that area) She requested a hearing. I thought the magistrate was GOING to send her to Gitmo. She explained that it was her first ever infraction and she was willing to pay the fine if he would reduce the points, attend school, what ever not to get the points. The cops and the magistrate treated her like a school girl, reading her the riot act. It appears this a major source of income for the little town. I finally had had enough of the indignation and piped up that that was enough, that it was very evident what was happening and that even a smart man knows that it is worthless to argue with fools and walked out. I was grabbed at the door returned to the courtroom and threaten with contempt of court. A little fast talking about attorneys and rights,etc.etc. I was allowed to leave. Needless to say Rt 51 N in Rostraver Twp in SW Pa does't exist to me or my wife. I will drive 100 miles out of my way to miss that stretch of road
According to the info I have, we have to attend a class.
When I was growing up, my dad had a Datsun 280ZX. For the early '80s, that was a sweet car.
In SW PA? I will have to tell my father in law. He's heavy on the pedal but has a radar on his vehicle. He hasn't had a ticket in a few years. He drives fast, like 90 on I-80.
There should be plenty of classes to get into. Most cost around $25 for ticket dismissal and $15 for insurance discount in Texas.
The TXDPS has an on-line version that takes about 8 hours. My neighbor's wife found out the hard way. He told her to just pay the ticket, but she insisted on the defensive driving.

it's a re-cap of rules of the road. Everything from street signage to lane changing, parallel parking rules, 4-way stops (we need EVERYONE here in Cal to relearn that one, I think!), it pretty much covers everything - it's very thorough. The online one is anyway, the others aren't as thorough or as interesting, in my opinion.

This is NOT universally true. In many locations getting a lawyer can help avoid points that will cost in insurance for years.
The best advice I can give is don't get legal advice on the internet. Talk to a lawyer in your area who does traffic tickets on the cheap. They will likely get you as good a deal (if not better) as a more expensive lawyer - they deal with the prosecutor more frequently.
