Last songs: Bo takes it. Which stinks because it was such a mediocre performance for him. He phoned it in for the most part with a couple cameos on stage.

As I said in another post, perhaps my television hates Carrie, maybe they compressed the show slightly to make up time on the west coast, or whatever, but I obviously didn't hear the same performance that others did.

Gonna vote for Carrie; I think she needs the win more than Bo. Gonna buy Bo's albums and maybe Carrie's.

Thanks.....I thought Carrie did the last song well, til the end. Nerves? I guess. But I picked her at the beginning and stuck with her. Good luck on the voting! I got through once......grrrrrrrrrr

Hi, jonny. AI ended a few minutes ago in this time zone. Don't know when you'll see these comments, but here's my take.

The two power ballads that the AI producers came up with for the first record of the winner played totally to Carrie's strengths, not to Bo's. Obviously, I don't know when the songs were written, but do know that they are ready at least three weeks before the final show. The last three or four contestants all record it so it will be ready to be released quickly after the winner is chosen.

Back when those songs were being written and produced, Carrie was the favorite to win. They clearly were designed for her. That being the case, I'd say Bo actually did the better job tonight, because he was the one forced out of his genre and natural style. He was a little bit shaky on the first song, but really nailed the other two.

Carrie actually had the easier job tonight, because all three songs fit her natural style. I think she did a fine job overall -- about the best that she can do in a competition setting. But I disagree with Simon (who was still trying in the end to tilt the voting to her). I think she fell just a bit short.

Bo reached a whole different level last week with that amazing a cappella performance, and I think he may actually have won the competition then. Remember a few weeks ago when pretty much everyone thought the final three were going to be Carrie, Constantine and Nadia? And then somewhere along the line, Bo reached down deep and found a different level of performance in himself. He's come on strong ever since, and it would surprise me if he lost tomorrow night.

I think the vote totals will be close, and it will depend on whose voters get through the most. But there are plenty of country/power ballad type singers out there. Other than her fresh, all-American-girl beauty, Carrie doesn't bring anything particularly unique to the table. Bo does. He isn't just a retro-rocker, nor another Josh Groban/Clay Aiken type, nor even the boy version of today's pop tarts (e.g., Justin Timberlake). Even when he does ballads, Bo has a compelling edge to him that draws the audience in.

No so much in vocal tone or genre, but in that edge he has to his voice, Bo reminds me of singers like Willie Nelson, Roy Orbison, and Bruce Springsteen (in his prime). His sound isn't smooth and sikly, like Carrie and so many singers of that type.

Having said all that, I almost want Bo to lose because his first release will be those two awful power ballads that the AI producers/song writers came up with for the winner. Neither one of those songs suit him well or do him justice. He deserves better for his first release. They aren't authentic to who he is as a vocalist. As I said, they suit Carrie much better.

I just got home and finished watching the show; will vote in a moment. Haven't read all the posts yet but I am, in a mild way, rather shocked and had to get this off my chest.

I am, frankly, disappointed in both Bo's and Carrie's performances. I did not at all expect to have to say that I was disappointed in anything tonight. Carrie had real pitch problems, and was also "swallowing" the sound on Independence Day. Not her best work. Bo was weak in both his lower and upper ranges tonight, more so than usual. He also seemed restrained and yes, a little boring. Both performers' problems can probably be chalked up to nerves, but these were not their best performances.

And those new songs!! If you can call them that... wow, what wretched songs. No wonder the kids had trouble putting them over. When is AI going to hire some real songwriting talent and get some decent songs for the end of the season? Yikes.

You should come to Ireland, I'm sure you'd both love it over here.

DH and I went to Ireland in October '93. Terrific trip! (Except for the fact that we both came down with the flu while in the air, and doubtless spread it all over Ireland! Sorry!)

Dublin was an interesting town though not a knockout (compared to say, Paris - sorry!) but the countryside -- could anything be more beautiful? We drove around the Dingle peninsula, Ring of Kerry, other rural areas -- just astoundingly gorgeous. And I had the best lamb I've ever eaten there! :)

When Mikalah sings in the big group song, she'll stick out like Barney Fife in the church choir.

I missed this post during the show, but that is a great visual!

"Bridge Over Troubled Water"

That would have been a nice one for him.

She wasn't pleasent to the eyes. I can't help it if genetics hit her with an ugly stick, at least she has been famous and is doing pretty well.

How old are you? You sound like my middle school age nephew.

Kelly was the only performer at the concert they went to.

Tell me something. You seem to hate women. Why?

I don't hate women, my mother and girlfriends have all been women I'll have you know.

Where I was, Kelly was one of many acts, performed a 20 minute set and left.
Gwen Stefani, Fergie of Black Eyed Peas, Lindsay Lohan, all easily outsang her.
I was mostly surprised that Linsay Lohan sang better than her, I thought she was more of an actress than singer.

Kelly did OK though.
She did have a #1 pop song for almost a month. That is pretty good in my book.

Can't help it, the girl is barely over twenty with the body of a 45 year old Russian woman.

Carrie, OTOH, is often so stiff and nervous that it's distracting. She can overcome that in time and will have a great career

You are right about that. She is very nervous still.

(and if she goes on tour with Fedorov, they'll be unstoppable!).

That's for sure. After seeing the chemistry between them during that Islands in the Stream group song, they would definitely do great together. He sure was cheering hard for her tonight.

I didn't notice him the first time I saw it but I did see him when I was watching with Krystina. They are so cute.

I just don't understand you. On some levels you seem like a very nice, clever guy and on other levels you seem childishly mean.

It's a bit confusing. What's up?

I think you might be exaggerating just a bit.....

Actually, Wolfstar has posted many things about Kelly's career. Just one tidbit that I remember is that she has had the second longest running song on a Billboard Chart.

Second only to Celine Dion.

That's pretty impressive isn't it?

I didn't know Lindsay Lohan could sing either.

I guess you will be watching Wednesday night then, so you can hear her sing again.

She had a lovely voice. I wish she had lasted longer. The "hot" factor isn't there for me since I'm a girl, but she is very pretty.

That, with smaller breasts would be Kelly's body.

She has had two top songs I believe. Don't know how she could have a record breaking type of career on two songs, but she has a future yet I think.

I watched it again with my daughter and Carrie really did well.

She sure was nervous, but given all that she did really well.

I had initially felt like I would be disappointed if Bo won, but now I will be happy for either one of them.

Someone up thread (I can't remember who exactly) said something that has stayed with me.

Carrie may be better off in the long run if she doesn't actually win. She will still get a contract, probably with BMG anyway and if she's not the winner she can work at her own speed a little more.

She may need that. I'll bet there's lots of pressure on the winner.

Whoever said that was right on I think. Since you know music what is your opinion of that?
