The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Have a safe journey to the mountains near the south desert.

I liked that one in this month's Primitive Archer, the long flatbow with reflex and a little recurve. It is kind of inspiring, I'd like to try something like that, next one out, I think. Not sure if I'd use the heatgun or some other method, like steam. I do own a heatgun, forget at the moment why I bought it. Paint stripping most likely. You can set stuff on fire with it, however.

Good evening, everyone.

Evening Ramius, thank you for your kind words. Glad you got a better room, one with an ashtray.

Evening Sam - The High Performance Selfbow? Marc is a fine bowyer and a true craftsman; his bows are highly sought after. He'll be at MoJAM this year, driving down from Canada. He lives near Thunder Bay I believe. He is also a regular poster on Tradgang.

Hi there, Suz. Nice pic at the site, also. :)

Being a Sindarin Elf (of some antiquity, true), I can more or less reliably report that lembas were crunchy, not crumbly, had a taste that was almost sweet and almost dry but neither.

They are mostly on offer at Tulkas' Cookie Monster Shoppe in his treehouse.

Cheers!

Sam... did you see that story yesterday/this morning about the two-master that ran aground in California? Apparently was one of those semester-at-sea sort of boats. About a 90-footer, and pretty. Rescued everybody, but they were still trying to get it free of the beach when I left for the office.

I couldn't tell for sure, but it was maybe a barkentine sort of rig. Square sails on the foremast, but a gaff rig aft with a square tops'l. IIRC that's a barkentine, but I could be wrong about that.

It was sure a pretty thing, and it was heartbreaking to see it smacking on the rocks. I have no idea if they got it free again or not.

Mine is yew. I am glad to join your company.

You know, I actually acted out this character for about five years in an online community. There were many skirmishes with the yrch of Angband, in Dimbar, in Nan Dungortheb, along Sirion and even up in Rivil's Well (where I met Draugluin and almost my death). One day perhaps there might be more adventures.

Cheers. :)

No cheat mode? Where's the fun in that?

Hah, got my enemies to beg for mercy. And I got railroads so my troop movements will be much smoother. It's almost time for World War 1, I think.
