Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And take the hidden paths that run...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Mmm, Chinese takeout...
I'm looking at the homework I should be doing and thinking about playing a few rounds of Civ II instead.

'Course, this is a month's worth, all at once.

Civ II, not Civ 3? I love playing Civ 3, but haven't in a while. Since I got hooked trying to finish Neverwinter Nights, in fact.

Given the general silliness of california, I'm surprised that there aren't sections of the hotel for "eco" or "chem-free" reasons. All natural fiber carpet, no petroleum products, no manmade chems... for people with that so-called "multiple chemical sensitivity" thing. Or for the people that break out in hives if somebody at the next table starts talking about smoking.

She's doing just fine with the animals! She went riding today

We're all packed, we leave tomorrow morning.
If I don't have time to check out, have a good weekend here, and I'll see you in a few days!

lessee... cable, phone(s), gas, electric, water, insurance(s), etc., etc.

I like Civ II's cheesy graphics better. It lets me concentrate on just moving the guys around. More relaxing than a real-time strategy game, for me, and appeals to my desire-to-be-Queen.

I never take it off the easiest level either... it's just too strenuous otherwise. I do love developing hi-tech and beating up on lo-tech civs, though! ;)

I'm horrible at paying bills. Mainly 'cuz I just forget. I put them in the pile of bills to pay... and next month I realize that I'm putting down an envelope that looks just like the envelope that's already there... and it sorta clicks into focus. "Dammit."
I guess I need a bookkeeper.

I play at Warlord difficulty. Russians this time - Catherine the Great. I'm about to try a war with India. I'm only up to cannons, being fairly isolated and concentrating on building up my own civ before taking out other peoples'.

When I get too aggravated, or the computer's being unfair, I put it on cheat mode and drop nuclear bombs on their little knights and dragoons ;-)

Ha! There's another game that I used to play more, called Empire Earth, where you could literally do that: have bombers flying around dropping A-Bombs onto horse-mounted knights. Loads of fun! ;)

Aztecs were ticking me off about 100 years ago, at war with Persians; no ships, and my territory between them. Kept trying to move large forces across my country, and I kept going diplo on them and saying "withdraw or declare war!"
Meanwhile I'm trying to develop tanks, running just enough tax over science to keep from running out of money before the tech showed up..."As soon as I have tanks, you guys are toast!"
So one turn before I have an operational tank unit, they go and declare peace and quit trying to cross me.
So now I'm building a bunch of tanks and looking to develop synthetic fibers quickly so I can go Modern Armor and mortalize 'em just on general principals (and they have Silk, and I want it).
Civ 3 makes me eeeevil.

Good Evening BelegStrongbow. Our companion on these many miles speaks truly.
We craft our own weaponry by hand, mine are of osage and Sam's are of ash. Longbows, they are. Fine weapons for launching the feathered shaft toward miscreants of every ilk.
We welcome another archer to our company.
To: JenB
Yep, that's a drawback in 3...no cheat mode. Or if there is, it isn't obvious.
