New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |

Still round the corner there may wait |

Home is behind, the world ahead, |
I was trying to remember the first PC we had in our house. SSQ says it was an IBM XT. He got it as a hand-me-down, work at home computer from Bell Labs when he was working there. He had been upgraded to an IBM PC AT. I remember David sitting on SSQ's lap playing on the XT, and there was some sort of program, Mozart or something, that used to play music. He and Paul also played a game called "Shark Hunter" or something like that. That must have been in early 1986, cause David wasn't yet 4. By the time we left NJ, in early 1988, the boys had that computer in the extra bedroom and SSQ had gotten another one for his home use.
An XT was our first computer, too. I think Dad got it from work, or from someone else's work that had upgraded. It had two 5 1/4" floppy drives, and no hard drive.
Just paying off my credit card...and then I'm going to cancel it, I think, unless after a little thought I decide it's worth keeping in case of emergencies. I need to find out if they still charge a fee even if you have a zero balance.
This is one of the blessings of the house selling for what it did! I didn't think I'd be able to do anything more than move!
we had pong! I remember dad bringing it home and setting it up. There was a switch on the back of the TV set if you wanted to play. And no VHS, just BETA.
Most gas stations along the interstates now allow you to pay at the pump with a credit card. We found that most stations ONLY allow that at night-time, which is when I drive on long trips.
My debit card works as a credit card, though...so unless I run out of cash, I don't need a real credit card. I use my debit card for groceries, gas, and any time I don't have cash.
I got my credit card because I didn't have much credit history. What with buying and selling a house...I'm guessin' that counts for a lot more than a credit card would.
The only reason I can think of for keeping it is for times when I need money suddenly and don't have cash on hand, i.e. if I suddenly needed to fly out due to a family emergency. I could see keeping it for that IF there's no fee.
Guess I gotta call and find out, but I'm dreading it as they always try to talk ya into additional services and plans. Ugh.
Good morning!

We had a TI994A, with a speech synthesizer.
Morning everyone! Am just now getting caught up... with work stuff. :(
Good morning!
It's moving day phase one, after I get done at work. All the boxes of crap and light stuff.
Hmm, I don't see why you'd need a credit card if you've got a decent cash reserve. I don't have one. Since debit cards can do anything credit cards can, I just don't want the hassles and temptations that come with credit.
