The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I like it...doesn't look like a van, but you still get niceties like the back seat and the sliding door.

I've never had anything new enough to worry about paint...but I hope it's something they can resolve to your satisfaction!

The thrid row seating is removable and it is a 50/50 split bench.

I like it too. It rides like a car because of the FWD, but it looks like a truck. The sticker says ti is a Light-Duty Truck. In reality it is very much like the Ford Expedition except that it has rear sliding doors.

It's not kilt. It's just napping...

I was on the phone verifying that we won an 8 day/7 night trip/cruise that we registered for at the Home Show last week. It's a great deal. All expenses paid, first class hotels, rental car.

The only catch is they wanted my credit card info for $600 TODAY ($299 each).

Granted, with what the trip offers, it's a pretty reasonable deal. But I'm not giving that out over the phone and I don't have $600 just to throw around like that anyway.

I asked her to mail me some information for us to look at. She said "we can't mail anything out without the deposit."

"Then give it to someone else."

Man... too bad, but probably the right call. Just don't tell the Mrs.

Just don't tell the Mrs.

Are you kidding? She would have cut them off before I did.

pray for me. I am about to go back to the dealership. Gotta pick up elf-boy from school first though.

We have a situation change with my car (the lease). I can now use it as trade in. I had not been planning on that. This can be a *really* good thing if the trade in value is more than $3000.

I am planning on putting down 10k, then the trade in value goes towards the remaining balance on the lease. If the value is more than the balance, then it gets applied to the downpayment. WooHoo!

I know, I was just teasing.

Just don't say, "Honey, I'm too cheap to pay for a free cruise".

Heh...every so often we'll take advantage of these offers. Usually it's just the local ones. "Come visit our timeshares and we'll give you this..."

The sales people really get annoyed with us when we don't buy right there on the spot.

But even if we're in the market for something (and we'll never buy a timeshare), we have a couple of rules, at least on the big stuff.

No impulse buying. No buying if the offer is "only good for today."

Nice!! That's why it took a while for us to find the used van we got last Fall. I wanted a split rear seat that the pieces could be moved independent of each other. I didn't care if they folded into the floor. In fact, Chrysler no longer makes an AWD model because they wanted to go to the fold in the floor seats, and they couldn't do both. The model year we bought, the 2003, was the last year they did the AWD. I'm glad I got it,though! It has been a God-send this winter with the snows we've had. I feel very confident when I'm driving now that I won't be sliding around in the slush. Ice is another matter, and I just don't go out when the roads are icy!

Good plan. You know, a free cruise oughta be just that. Free.

And now they'll sell your info to everyone in the world. Happened to me once...free cruise and everything, then I started getting phone calls and junk mail.

That was before the no-call list, though...which I never signed up for. My number is always unlisted (after getting a death thread a few years back) and I don't seem troubled with them.

That is, until Steve has to sign up for a Discover card so he can get the free tee-shirt. Grrrr....

Sheesh, you've had an interesting life, haven't you?

My one coworker reminds me of you - he dates loonies. Every time he meets a girl, I just wait a week or two for the next horror story. Last one was a girl who went off on a diatribe about "the JEWWWWS!!!!" - he said he turned the car around and left her back at her place, that time.

I had a suspicion that it was this girl at work but couldn't prove it. They put a tap on my phone and everything trying to catch her but couldn't. This was years ago before automatic call back and everything. She threatened to kill me, but before she got to that part, my answering machine had kicked on and it recorded it all. When the police heard it, the officer himself said it was unnerving and that I should have someone with me.

My mom wanted to know what I'd done to make someone made enough to kill me.
