ABC EXECS FORCE ROBIN WILLAMS TO CUT OSCAR SKIT Sat Feb 26 2005 19:21:18 ET
A growing chill is in the air over Hollywood Saturday night after ABC executives forced Robin Williams to drop a comic song from the Oscars show!
Williams, the presenter of the Academy Award for best animated feature, decided last week that his one minute on stage would be a prime time to lampoon a conservative critic James C. Dobson, whose group Focus on the Family last month criticized the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants for appearing in a video about tolerance that the group called "pro-homosexual."

NEW YORK TIMES reporters Dave Halbfinger and Sharon Waxman are developing a story for late Sunday editions, newsroom sources tell DRUDGE.
Williams had hoped to joke using lisping character:
"Pinocchio's had his nose done! Sleeping Beauty is popping pills!
"The Three Little Pigs ain't kosher! Betty Boop works Beverly Hills!"
"Fred Flintstone is dyslexic, Jessica Rabbit is really a man, Olive Oyl is really anorexic, and Casper is in the Ku Klux Klan!"
MORE
Officials from ABC's broadcast standards and practices office were not pleased.
Williams explains: "For a while you get mad, then you get over it. They're afraid of saying Olive Oyl is anorexic. It tells you about the state of humor."
Developing late...

Drudge Flash: I really do love movies, but I have not gone to a movie in a theatre for months and have not seen any of the Oscar-Nominated Films this year. Problems for the Oscars and ABC 1. No one really cares except those giving out the awards. The critics do not even respect the Oscars and there are way too many awards shows now---the entertainment industry has diluted the signifiance of the Oscars (if there ever was any significance) 2. The number of people watching the Oscars will probably continue to drop this year too...so who cares if Robin Williams or Chris Rock go overboard...I actually think Williams is hilarious when he at least tries to stay away from harsh politics 3. No one likes going to movies in theaters...I actually hate it...maybe I am getting old, but I do not enjoy paying $10 for a move with COMMERCIALS before the movie (not previews, but friggin COKE commercials, etc) and trying to tolerate all the rude people who talk to each other, talk on a cell phone or kick the seats in the theater. Just gimme the DVD and my own TV and home system. Anyway, I will not be watching the Oscars, but I will be rooting for Martin Scorsese for being acknowledged for all of his past work.

Most of the people in Hollywierd HATE America and ordinary Americans - but they are still smart enough to hide their disdain while they take our money.

I'd guess that the ABC brass is already sensing a ratings train wreck tomorrow night and they figured there's no sense in further alienating a substantial portion of what little audience they will have with gonzo acts performed by unfunny presenters who only want to go over the top to score PC points.
Personally, I've always felt that William's value to me as an entertainer has been going steadily going downhill ever since the Mork and Mindy show went off the air.

Robin Williams is an ingorant liberal. I would love to buy Williams for what he is worth and sell him for what he thinks he is worth.

Based on the terrible rating for most of the awards shows of late, Grammy's I think were 40% down from last year. I predict this will be the least watched Oscars show in a very long time. WOuld not be surprised if the rating were down at t a minimum of 25% to 35% from last year and 40% or more down from 1998 when "Titanic" was the big movie.

Just gimme the DVD and my own TV and home system I usually buy used DVD's - less expensive, plus the stars have already gotten whatever share they're getting, and I'm not giving them another cut.

I never liked William's so called "comedy" act. Talking fast does not equal funny. The last time I enjoyed him was when I was a little kid and he was Mork.

Williams should never have progressed beyond "NA NU, NA NU" as he had reached the limit of his talent by that time!

Hmm, how can I put this so I won't get zapped for naughty words. Can you say "Circle j**k"? Because that's pretty much what any event featuring 3 or more leftist hollywood hacks turns into.
