The truth about states with smoking bans!

Mike Troy, the author, is former Economic Development Director of the Kittson County (MN) Office of Economic Development.  Above is his editorial, debunking health risks from smoking and telling the real economic results in states where smoking bans have been enacted.

"The well-financed special interests against the legal activity of smoking will coerce legislators into making a major mistake. Please let your representatives know that they should have all the facts before acting."

It took real self control on my part, not to "bold" every line!  The worm of public opinion seems to be turning against the Antis....in addition, their funds from the tobacco companies are beginning to run out.

As a non-smoker, this has little bearing on me, personally.

Government's control over smoking should stop at the door of a business establishment in the form of "Smokers Welcome" or "No Smoking". The choice of entry then becomes a mutual decision between the owner and patron.

If we are to believe that smoking is killing thousands then it would be irresponsible for lawmakers to do anything less than ban smoking and cigarettes. Fat chance that will happen because smokers are an easy way to raise a lot of taxes. Lawmakers have now gotten themselves into a quandry...they are being pushed by the anti-smoking jihad to drastically limit smoking yet they cannot live without the tax revenue smoking raises.

I'm glad to see that other people do the research also.
It saddens me that people do not look into what they comment on, and vote on, with a unprejudiced view.

"The term that comes to my mind is "comparative risk." That is, if you were to compare the risk of secondhand smoke to other risks found in homes and workplaces, you'd find little real difference, especially if those other risks were subject to the same scrutiny that secondhand smoke has endured."

THEN WHY DOES MY WINDPIPE CLOSE UP AND I START GAGGING AND GETTING ASTHMATIC WHEN I'M AROUND SMOKERS BUT NOT WHEN MY OVEN IS ON, OR MY TELEVISION, OR WHATEVER OTHER SO-CALLED RISKS OF THE HOME AND WORKPLACE OF WHICH HE SPEAKS. WHY DOESN'T HE LIST THESE RISKS. ALSO, THE OTHER NIGHT, MY HUBBY AND I WENT TO A SMALL PIZZA PLACE WHERE THERE WERE SEVERAL PEOPLE SMOKING AND WHEN WE LEFT I HAD TO STRIP OFF ALL OF MY CLOTHES AND LAUNDER THEM AS WELL AS TAKE A SHOWER AND WASH MY HAIR TOO - IT WAS A PAIN IN THE BUTT - BECAUSE IT WAS SO HORRIBLE I COULDN'T BEAR IT. IT'S AN ADDICTION AND LIKE ALL ADDICTIONS, IT AFFECTS ONE'S BRAIN - LACK OF OXYGEN. YOU PRO-SMOKING CRUSADERS REMIND ME OF THE PRO-CHOICE PEOPLE (YOU'RE BOTH PRO-DEATH) AND BLIND, BLIND BLIND.

Private business owners should be able to decide if they want a smoke-free establishment or not. It's the proprietor's decision whether such a policy would be a positive or a negative for their establishment.

I personally would choose to spend my dollars in a restaurant that prohibits smoking. My guess is that many restaurants would go smoke-free in order to appear family-friendly, while most bars would continue to allow smoking.

"So when restaurants force smokers out into the area's cold weather, those smokers do not go out to eat. They stay home and keep an equal number of non-smokers with them."

An interesting little tidbit of info. BUSINESSES HAD BETTER BEWARE!

The lies included the health risks (for example, the statement that 50,000 people die each year from exposure to secondhand smoke) and false representations of health studies (check the World Health Organization and other groups on this).

Well if the United Nations says that there are not negative health implications from Second Hand Smoke it must be true.

The article never mentions the most important part of the problem. Not surprising.
