RACINE, Wis. - A man may have found out firsthand just how nasty the competition is between the world's two biggest beermakers.
Isac Aguero, 24, said he was fired from his job with a Miller Brewing distributor, the same day a picture appeared in The Journal Times of Racine of him drinking a Bud Light, which is brewed by Anheuser-Busch Co.
The photo, taken Feb. 5, was part of the newspaper's weekly "On the Town" feature, which depicts the city's night life.
Aguero, who had been a forklift operator at CJW Inc. for four years, told the newspaper he was informed by co-workers when he arrived at work Monday that he was in trouble because of the picture.
He said he was called into the general manager's office and told he was fired. Aguero said he was not given a reason and claimed he never had problems with his bosses.
"It was a Saturday and I wasn't at work," he told The Journal Times. "They can't tell me what beverages I can drink.
"Bud Light's my beer of choice, I always drink that. Just because I work there, do I have to change what I drink?"
Thomas Bey, a CJW sales manager, read a statement to The Associated Press Friday and would not answer any questions. He said the company does not publicly discuss past or present employees.
Repeated calls Friday by The Associated Press to the phone number listed for Aguero went unanswered.
There wasn't much that wasn't funny when I was a drinker.
I used to go to work and decide I didn't want to be there and call in sick from the break room and go home.
"I knew that."
The. Best. TV. Show. EVER.
You hit bottom, but you didn't stay there. You have my admiration. Far too many hit bottom and that's the last we hear from them.
I saw enough of my friends die or worse that I finally quit. Even crippling myself wasn't enough to cause me to quit drinking.
I met my wife and quit just like that. I never went to AA or any treatment programs. I just made the decision and stopped and haven't drank for several years now.
It's not the only approach that works, and the concept that the former alcoholic is only a recovering alcoholic for the rest of his life and needs constant group therapy, seems a little contrary to common sense to me. I'm sure it's true for some, but it's not true for all.
That's why you're not allowed to take Cialis in the workplace.
HAH! Yikes... that's no fun...
In this story, though, they're both right. The boss has the right to fire the guy for whatever reason he wants... AND... the boss is a bastard for doing it.
But its probably also true that if the guy was a really valuable employee they all would've just had a laugh about it and forgotten it. The boss was probably gonna fire him eventually for something, and this happened to be it.
In my case I was pretty much functional. I never went to work drunk but I got drunk every night after work. In fact I went from being a temp worker to being the foreman of my department when I was drinking the most. I never missed more work than I was entitled to. I busted up my legs and was unable to work.
I don't have any problem being around drinkers. My wife drinks on occasion and theres a pint of Captain Morgan in the freezer right now but it does't call out to me or anything.
When I first quit I carried an unopened can of beer around with me for several months. Finally I was at a bonfire and I stuck the nasty old can of beer in the cooler with the rest and sat back to see who was the lucky winner.
I'm glad to hear it, 'cause the stuff they've been selling for years is 'like making love in a canoe'.
So you stiffed your boss?
And were they hard on ya.....
Thats one way to get a head in your job..... OK I'll quit.......
"The beer whats made Milwaukee famous made a loser out of me."
I've passed out while on the phone with my boss, calling off 'sick.'
The key to calling in sick is to not talk at all before calling the office. The hoarse "morning voice" works better than all the long winded excuses do. Keep it short.
