*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

Can you load them all up and take them to your dad's or to Bob's place for the week? I've had friends go out of town that brought their horses to stay at our place while they were gone. At this point, I sure would board the dogs, ask your vet if he will board them and put them together so they won't stress out.

Do you have a stable near by that you could board them at if she doesn't work out? At least you would know they were ok, even if they weren't home.

Warm and windy during the day, cool and windy at night. There are some storms supposed to come through but they may hold off until Sunday or Monday.

Good morning all... I've been up and watching for this potential farm sitter lady to come. She said she'd come early, but we didn't name a time, I was curious to know what she considers 'early' ;~D. The horses are waiting for breakfast, I want to wait if possible for her to be here for that.

Had to put the pony's spare blanket on last night, she ripped one of her straps again. I've fixed it this morning while I had coffee. It's gonna be drizzley and wet today, not sure what's on our agenda.

Good morning,

Trailer picked up Lil Bit this morning. They are hauling a full load and three other horses on the trailer are going to the people who bought Lil Bit. All young ones, Lil Bit at two is the oldest.

I called and spoke to the guy to let him know she was on her way and ask him about the others. They are hoping to start their own place, breeding and showing. Hope their sense matches their money.

On another note - Tuffy's eye is no longer partially blue. Isn't that the oddest thing? He surely does love me though, can't get enough of getting scratched and sticking his nose in my face.

Dusty's belly has dropped - she should still be ten days out from foaling but we are going to put her in the barn today, just in case.

Rainy and drizzling here, getting cold and a storm coming in. You all have a good day, Hair - hope things work out with your horse sitter.

I think horses are wonderful animals but I'm afraid to jump in feet first, even with all these facilities. There's so much care involved, plus I don't know what I don't know. You know?

LOL, Hair. I'd send ya MY teenager. But we don't have the funds to do that.

She's an excellent 'horse kid'/farmer/'watcher-over-er'.

Heheh - Hey we looked up airfare because we'd be willing to buy it and pay her if it was reasonable! But airfare from Cleveland to Seattle and back is $600 right now. Would have been cheaper a month ago :~D

Not that it wouldn't be a bargain. I've looked into boarding the horses and dogs, and we're looking at $700. $10 per day per horse, $16 per day per dog, plus veterinary for each because the horse boarder wants strangles, which mine don't get now, and dogs are due for their shots.

Lemme talk to hubby. Maybe we can go 'halfers'. I know that we have the $$$ to do that...

We'd be flying her out of Columbus, OH.

BTW.....NO PAY would be required. She's dying to do this and I see it as a good 'life skill-life reference'. LOL... sometime , down the road, she could use ya as a 'job reference'.

Also, she knows how to do the 'shots thang'. (we do most of our own)
