*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Previous threads:

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - thread ONE
The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!
The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

About 5 years ago we were looking for a horse for our daughter. She insisted that she wanted an Arabian. After looking for several months we came upon a stable who was selling 4 horses that the owner abandoned. The owner of our Playboy's Vanity owed about 7 months fees for 4 horses. $$$$ The stable was willing to sell PB to us for a very reasonable price.Playboy is now 15 years old. Here is PB in his patriotic halter. :-)

Playboy's Vanity

Bentley is a registered Pintabian...99% Arabian. He is a PMU colt that my daughter rescued from Prism PMU Foals. His daddy is this guy...

SH Conquestidor

After my daughter did some intensive searching she has found out that PB and Bentley are 2nd or 3rd cousins.

Hope you had fun ambling about in the yard :~D

Having the horse straddling the log is a good way to get in the saddle on trail... They can't sidle away from you like they can if you stand them along side it, and they may be more reluctant to walk off before you're ready. :~D

I've been cleaning house today... Not glamorous, but it ~really~ needed done. I can now see the top of our desk :~D

I don't know why the people have animals to begin with

I feel the same way. I pray I never get to the point, but if needed I would rather sell or give our pets away to a good home... than see them skinny and not taken care of.

Before we bought PB we asked various stables if they knew about him. One guy said, "He's going to kill you." It appears PB was quite aggressive at one point in his life. He sure hasn't shown any signs of that since he has been here. I think he knows a good thing when he sees it. He really is a sweetheart.

I am glad for the neglected horse that she's going to get some care.

He's got such a lovely face and eyes - I can't imagine him being aggressive for no reason, perhaps he just didn't care for whoever was handling him.

The grey arab is really cute, and the paint is really nice looking. Welcome to the thread!

Hi.

I just found out that our farm sitter had emergency surgery to have her appendix out and while at the hospital cuaght Strep Throat.

I don't know what to do. I have no idea whether she's gonna recover in time to reliably be there for us by Thursday.

Beaker... wanna come to Washington for a Vacation next week? Anyone else want to send me their teenagers?

Wow! Both boys sure are pretty. I especially like Conquestidor. Looks like Bentley got his graceful look from him.

All we need now is training, the right spirit, and boatloads of cash, right? :)

You'll need a whole lot fewer boatloads of cash than people who have to board their horses. Being able to walk out the back door and visit with them is the best thing in the world.

I haven't been on a horse since I was 4 years old.

If you like horses as much as the rest of us do, it'll come back to ya. I'm sure the girls would love for their Mom to be able to go on trail rides with them. All the better to get pictures. No picture is complete without 2 pointy little ears to shoot between. ;o)

Man Hair, that's bad! I swear that hospitals are the world's worst places to catch stuff. If you weren't sick when you went in there, you sure will be before you get out. If she can't make it, maybe your friend Bob could come and feed for ya, even if it's only once a day. They can hold out for a week. I know it's not the best, but it beats cancelling your trip.

I called my friend Bob and I'm talking to him... and he puts the phone down and yells out the door ("Hey - you feed animals?") at some lady that's doing yard work for him and put her on phone with us. She's gonna come by tomorrow. I'd like to trust whoever Bob says can be trusted, but I just feel really out of control of the situation.
