*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Previous threads:

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - thread ONE
The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!
The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

This is a log I'd like to drag with the truck into a better location. That shrubby thing next to it has a lot of eye pokers if you try to ride over it now.

I know it's not as interesting as riding, but that's all I've got today!

Oh - no it's not... here's Bay and the pony scratching each other's backs. Hair just fallin' off of Bay in clumps, I'm afraid the pony is gonna get hairballs ;~D

I'm afraid the pony is gonna get hairballs...

LOL!! I've thought the same thing myself. I don't see how they stand it.

Hi Lainie! Welcome to the thread! Feel free to pipe up at any time and especially feel free to post pictures. We LOVE pictures. If you need it, the instructions are at the bottom of our "Who's Who" page.

I think it's great that your girls are getting to take lessons. I would've given my right arm to have been able to do that when I was a kid. I had to beg rides off my cousins. Are you planning on getting them a horse or pony later on?

Those videos were interesting, thanks for posting. My stress tests results came out A-OK, but I have a cold. Doc told me not to go to work. :) Gonna goof off and play PC games.

At first I couldn't see your pictures, just red X's, but when I got the URL from the properties and went there directly, I saw them. I like the one of him rearing up. Very nice! But I thought the very first one you posted was really pretty too. All Hoss pictures are good to me! You should let ecurbh make an entry on our Who's Who page with them. Is Bentley an only horse?

Good morning, I'm getting the picture of the baby but not the second picture. The baby is a sweetheart though, what breed is this? (I may have missed a post here)

2yr old leaves tomorrow for her new home in Southern Cal. Also mare coming home today that was bred to an outside stud. (paid for before we got our stud)

Colt is going to be light - dun? or palomino?

Hi Duchess! See my post 5766 on how to get the pictures to show. This is the same black horse she posted a while back. He's 2 now.

I'm leaving on Sunday going out of town on business and won't be back 'til Wednesday of next week. Just so y'all'll know where I'm at.

I'm leaving work here in a few minutes to meet the farrier out at the farm. Blade lost a front shoe last Saturday and everybody else needs a trim. I'm gonna ask him if he'll show me how to do it. He's fixing to go back to having a "real job" and will just be shoeing "on the side" so now's as good a time as any.

Y'all have a good weekend!

Hey everyone.
Been busy on this end. The weather is gorgeous. In the 40s and a lot of the snow is gone save for the really big honking chunks that won't go away. But it feel so good that spring is finally around the corner. I'm going to try to get to the barn and do some riding on Sunday.

Hi! Thanks! Yes, I think we're inching our way up to horse ownership at some point. We bought the property, and the woman before us had four horses, so we're all set in terms of fencing & stables. All we need now is training, the right spirit, and boatloads of cash, right? :) The girls are 8 and 5 and they are so excited, they can't stop talking about it. The lessons are just a couple miles up the road, which is great. We live in the boonies & there's precious few things we can do that don't require a :30 or :45 drive.

JP just left. We've been outside all day ambling around the yard.

Hair your obstacles look fun. We always had to climb or go down a short steep incline. There are lots of things to do with a downed tree like that. We've had to side pass down them. Step thier front end over and whoa them, and dismount on the log. Then remount.

Rocky's hair is coming out fast and furious now, the others seem to just be getting started.

lainie, that's excellent that your girls are getting lessons. I'd have killed for some at that age.
Pictures, take pictures:)

Frog, have a good trip.

Becky

I will certainly take bunches of pictures. As for me... I dunno about that. I haven't been on a horse since I was 4 years old. We'll let the kids have fun with it & I'll be the photojournalist for now. hehe

I forgot to mention, my neighbor called and said the POA foaled this morning. It's a filly and looks like mom, a palamino colored spotted. She hadn't seperated the other one, but everything is fine.

My neighbor also told me that she is buying a horse from another of our neighbors, that hasn't been being taking care of. She has reported it several times, and nothing much is ever done, so she is just going to buy her. Poor thing is a bag of bones, and in need of a worming. I don't know why the people have animals to begin with, but Beth will fix her.

Thanks guys. When everyone at work had it, I was spared. I think I picked something, up at the hosptial.

It's warming up and the sun is shining. I am going to ride tomorrow, if I feel better.
