The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

You were right, I am tired and I think I'll have an early night. Tuesdays are torture, after all.

Heh, heh, heh...

Ah, to hear her speak of Hooters...

Sort of like getting me talking about Teddy Kennedy.

talking about Teddy Kennedy.

well... you got me there. Teddy does have some bodacious hooters. Not quite what I had in mind, though... and I sure as heck don't want him bringin' me any drinks...

I just know that when the Mass was in Latin, the priest always said "Dominus vobiscum", and we answered "Et cum Spiritu tuo", which in English now translates to "The Lord be with you", and "And also with you", though literally it should be, "and with your spirit".

Course there's the old joke about the drunk running out of Mass cause he thought the priest said "Dominic, go frisk em"

It's the Bard of the morning!

GAK! I can barely see the keyboard this early, much less be spouting freshly made poetry! ;o)

Good morning!

Warning: this is likely to be one long whiny rant. If ya don't wanna hear it, don't read it.

I spent the whole evening yesterday - except for fifteen minutes or so - cleaning and organizing. You'd think I'd be done, wouldn't you? I mean...I THOUGHT it was just a matter of mopping a few rooms and cleaning out the fridge, which admittedly was a task in and of itself. There are some metal parts (the racks, mostly) that are rusted and will NEVER look clean, and they've also dripped rusty water onto other things, which I couldn't completely get clear.

Then the brothers (two of them, anyway) came over to pull masking tape off the edges in the office and put the furniture back. Well...some of the paint got pulled with it. Not a lot, but I can see it. And in some places, they just left bits of tape rather than peel it that close. And no one bothered with doing any cleanup with the mineral spirits, so there are obvious paint smudges in some places. Granted, this is MY office, and I should be required to do the lion's share, but that was all I asked of 'em. *sigh* I know, you get what you pay for. I did provide dinner, though! Pepper steak. Turned out really good, too. But...oh well. It's at least better than it was, and I suppose I should be happy with that. I'm still worrying.

And the rest of the house...I got almost nowhere! I kept finding more and more things that needed work. Like...I went to open the blinds to let in more light and realized they were really dusty, so had to stop and do that...which took forever. Then when they STILL didn't look as nice as I'd hoped, I tried just pulling 'em all the way up...and the windowsills have a few mildew spots from condensation. I scrubbed THAT, and found the ones that are painted are all flaking off. Couldn't do anything about that...so they just look dingy.

I never got around to mopping the kitchen OR the bathroom, and the whole house is STILL messy - not just disorganized, either - actually dirty, even though I stayed up late yet again and got up early, though not as early as I woke up. I'm so nervous about meeting the lady this afternoon that I didn't sleep much. Also DREAMED about cleaning - and that the people who had the dogs had dropped 'em off while I was at work and I didn't know whether they were giving them back for good or what was going on, and the house being no longer dog-proofed, they'd gotten into all kinds of things.

So...I'm so tired today that if anyone looks at me funny I'm gonna cry, and we have a staff meeting that sounds like it's gonna be a doozy, I was fifteen minutes late and have to ask to leave early, and I'm horribly embarrassed at the thought of showing the lady the house in its current state. I mean...because we'd been carrying things in and out, I hadn't made people take of their shoes since I figured I'd just mop quickly at some point, so the kitchen and bathroom are all but muddy! I at least swept and mopped the livingroom, but...

Of course, if I was a better housekeeper all along this would be less of a problem. But it is, as I've mentioned before, probably my biggest failing.

*sigh* Maybe God wants to teach me humility. Big time.

Not to mention trust - I figure if this is meant to be, he'll make it happen despite mildewed windowsills and sticky floors....

Hang in there! My Real Estate Lady waited months for me to get the house show-ready...she actually saw that dog-ugly wallpaper I had in the bedroom...and the deck that was about to fall down.

I'm waiting for the Sunroom guys to show up this morning and just noticed a squirrel going up a tree with a mouthful of leaves.

Dang! It's nest-building time again.

You'll be fine.

Just approach the realtor with a list saying "I know I need to get these things done before I show the house."

She may add to it, or not.

Trust me. She's seen worse. And I'm willing to bet yours is not as bad as you think it is.

Yeah, but what worries me is that except for cleaning, I can't do anything else. I just can't. I was only able to paint the office because I bought the paint back before I lost my job. Long time ago.

So...except that I will of course clean everything, it is what it is. SO the lack of cleanliness bothers me even MORE, since it will be all I have to offer.

I wish.

Ugh...wish I had told her to come at five. Even half an hour extra would have made a difference.

But she isn't buying, of course. So I guess it's not as big of a deal as it will be when the house is shown.

My Realtor Lady gave me a reference to a cleaning service. Think she was trying to tell me something?

Maybe she can make recommendations on what you can do. I guess you could always scrape and sand so at least the buyer won't have to do that prep work before painting....leave the blinds down, and hope they don't look? I didn't raise the blinds when I looked at this house but I did notice that some of the windows were painted shut. And some windows need painting. It didn't dissuade me from buying this
