Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Tomorrow we may come this way...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I had loaded linux on my pc, the one I am using right now, and our dsl crashed. I had to go to the trouble of repartitioning everything and reloading xp. ick!! I don't wanna ever go through that again.

It's electric, sadly. And makes my pots smoke because they're lousy. I hope you have nice pots. I do! Someone gave me a full set of Farberware pans and a bunch of stainless steel mixing bowls. They're not brand new, but good, sturdy pans.
Gas is so much better, though! Oh well. Electric ovens work better, I think. And baking is a very nice thing...

There's a Linux certification you can get, as well, that might help convince prospective employers to take you on even without a lot of work experience in that area.Hm...probably too late for THIS time...but maybe I can set up an evil little Linux lab in the apartment. Bwahahahah!

Was it the Linux that caused your DSL to crash, or was it just coincidental?
That's why I like the idea of having a separate "learning" system... if you screw something up you can just wipe it without worrying about losing important stuff.

I don't think I'd want it on my main computer...but it'd be fun to play with!
Rats...if I had cash right now, I'd think about purchasing a new laptop since I get the education discount right now, and then load Linux on this machine.
But I shouldn't spend money until I know what's what!

Yay, pans!
Mwahaha... as long as you don't try loading Linux on my babies, you can play all you want. But I won't put Linux on My Precious laptop. Maybe once I've got thenewbox up and running, I'll make it a dual-boot. Or not.

the way the phone company has it set up, you have to have a running windows pc for the dsl to "log in". i.e. their software isn't unix/linux compatible unless it's a secondary computer.

That strikes me as being somewhat user unfriendly on their part.

Man...the more I read about that job, the more I want it.
*whimper*
I suppose e-mailing them with the bribe of buying pizza every Friday for a week isn't likely to cut it?
Want!

Every Friday for a week? That's not much of a bribe!
I hope you get it, would be very cool...

Oops.
Every Friday for a YEAR!
I really, really want it.
I'm afraid they won't even consider me, 'cause I ain't local quite yet and because my qualifications are all experience.
But I guess if it's meant to be...
It even fulfills the Unix wish!

Can you add the job I want to your prayer list, too?
It's awesome. Truly awesome.
A lot will depend on a) if they're willing to accept experience in place of degrees and b) if they're OK with doing a remote interview for now OR won't start interviews until late. I dunno how fast things move there...they're still taking applications right now.

If they bother saying no...that's the tough part about job applications! If you don't hear anything...it could mean you aren't being considered OR it could just mean it's taking awhile.
But if I remember right, in the case of my application where I work now, it was at LEAST three weeks before I was called for an interview, and I wasn't actually interviewed until several weeks after that. So...who knows? Maybe!
Gives us time to storm heaven. ;-)

In the meantime, though...I'm gonna ask everyone I can think of to pray for it.
If it's God's will, of course.
But it's perfect.
