The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

The turkey breast was still frozen so I made pizza instead. :)

I washed the road salt from the car, sanded and added more stain to the door frame, did laundry. Now my Feline Overlord bids me attend her.

Hehehe....come on down!

I'm planning on shopping for a decent drapery rod this week and see if I can find some cafe curtains for the door. Then I get to find out which one of those white paints goes in the kitchen.

I'm pretty sure the old car wouldn't make it...at least I don't feel safe driving too far in it.

But someday, ASG!

Corin, don't you keep saying you're doing to quit the pool board?

Sounds like your ox was in a ditch today for sure. Day of rest, meh.

Hey Suz...what do you think? Steve and I were talking about making a cinnamon raisin bread in the bread machine. So I looked up recipes on line and many are very similar to the one I use for my everyday bread, except that it calls for an extra tbsp of sugar. Well, I think my bread is plenty sweet as it is, so do you think I can just leave that extra tablespoon out? The recipe I'm planning on using is this:

2 tbsp oil
300ml warm milk
16oz weighed all-purpose flour (3 cups)
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
3/4 cup raisins (added at second kneading)

The only difference between this and the bread I make with great success every day is the cinnamon and the raisins.

Any thoughts?

Another reason I'm loathe to add another tablespoon of sugar is because the crust of my bread, even on "light", comes out very dark. I'm afraid another tbsp of sugar will just make it even darker.

Good evening!

I'm sittin' here listening to a song engaged brother wrote for his fiance for Valentine's Day and which Stephen (other brother) sang and recorded for him to present to her.

First one listed. I gotta say...much as the bother's annoy me at time, they do have some talent. ;-)

Oh, I think you could get by without the extra sugar. Y'all have gotten used to not eating things too sweet since you were doing the low-carb thing for a while. The raisins and cinnamon will also provide some extra sweetness. Besides, when you put cream cheese or butter on it after it's baked, who'd notice that it wasn't that sweet anyway? ;o)

One of these days (say...in ten or fifteen pounds) I wouldn't mind having a bread machine! You guys make me jealous.

I do love making bread from scratch and kneading it and all, but sometimes it'd be great to have it that easy.

There is artistic baking...and then there is utilitarian baking! Bread machine bread is just utilitarian! LOL

One gunman, gun type unknown (but Fox News, who should know better, call it an "assault rifle" anyway), motive unknown, one wounded, no dead.

My take on the situation seven minutes in.

Bread machine! Yeah, if I ever reach my goal I'll let you buy one. (Inidentally, the small appliances I have are a steamer, a crockpot, an electric wok, and a little grill. I almost never use the oven, with all that to chose from!)

Mmm. I splurged - artichokes were on sale, so I got one, and a mildly decent steak. I'm starving!
