Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Though we pass them by today...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

2J, I've got the Time magazine.
Which picture is Andy? I'm assuming that's a nickname, but there's no one labeled as "Andy" (as far as I can see at this point).

I'll get you a HUGH canister of cinnamon. They sell it at B.J.'s really inexpensively. I'd thought about trying to send you one before Christmas, but just didn't get the chance. Y'all can make them around Thanksgiving, and the house will smell great all the way through Christmas!

If you don't care about braiding the Challah, can you just leave it in the bread machine all the way through the baking?

Yes, they are very fragrant, heh, and No, you would not want to eat one of them. But... they ARE edible.

I imagine it is perfectly okay to leave it in the bread machine. What I do is put it on the dough cycle, then take it out after it is finished, then divide it into two, cut each half into thirds and braid two loaves, let 'em rise again, then brush them with eggwash and bake both loaves.

Yay! I'm so glad you got that! Enjoy... I sent you, I believe, the first volumes of three different manga, Fruits Basket and two others. I have the anime of the two others that I hope to loan you at some point but I thought it would be fun for you to see some very different styles of drawing and story.
We stopped by the anime-and-pocky store this afternoon. They had the art box for Fruits Basket. Ten dollars for a cardboard case with pictures, to put the dvds in. Um... well... I don't know how it ended up coming home with me!
Well, I'm taking the sibs on the donut run tomorrow morning so Mom can sleep in so I'd better go to bed... we were up late watching "Family Man", which is rather cute in a pg-13 sort of way.

I'll have to try some this weekend. The kids won't care if it's braided, they just love the taste!

Good grief - she's making the dog watch tv with her? Or was, rather....
Our granny's coming tomorrow. Tonight was, in Dad's words, the "trial run" for our homemade margaritas because tomorrow we're really gonna need 'em. Also we have wine, champagne, stuff for wassail, and more wine... enough to keep the lucky ones of us who are of age totally pleasant all weekend.

You all settled in for Christmas?
I am torn between hopes for a white Christmas, and my desire to go to church tomorrow night. Mom even ironed my dress for me. I can't iron it, it's made of something weird and I'd melt it. I'm kind of pathetic at some things.
I was thinking of Clare fondly today because I found out one anime she gave me fansubs on is going to be available in the spring. Tell her Merry Christmas from me!

I'm clearing out the living room in between freeping and finding gifts I'd bought and need to wrap later on in the morning. I have a few errands to run tomorrow, but no gift shopping. Gotta go to Trader Joe's for a few groceries, then it's home to finish cleaning and get ready to make BLTs for supper. It's our Christmas Eve tradition. Got the bacon the other day, and lettuce and tomatoes this evening.
Yikes! Just remembered I gotta get the ham out of the freezer!

Merry Christmas Eve!
I am finally headed to sleep. Got some last minute things to do tomorrow morning, and then we are off to my mother's to fetch elf-boy and have Christmas with my dad's family. It is still kinda awkward for us to be there without my dad, but we need to keep the tradition alive.
I think we are going to forego celebrating with my mother's family, and just have a small celebration with my mother and brother. This is the first time in maybe a decade that my brother has off on Christmas Day. (He's a police officer.)
