The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Mom and I are going shopping for Santa Pants

Hmmmm this ought to be good. Please ping me to an explanation and we will need photos, too.

I'm halfway through The Hobbit already.

And I was starting to feel like Bilbo...left without a pocket handkerchief, the "ponies" lost my baggage, and sometimes I wished I was back in my living room with the kettle singing on the stove.

But at least I wasn't chased by goblins or Wargs.

Here is the latest email!

Good morning, Kim-

Chris is totally overwhelmed. She just went on and on about y'all caring and giving so much and not even knowing them. She says that security up there is very tight, so please ship the knives to their home address.

Cher is supposed to come by during the holidays. Can you imagine? Of course I think George (the Dad) will be more impressed than the guys Andy's age....LOL!

Kim, I am praying that God will richly bless you and all in your group for your generosity and loving hearts. I'm hoping for the extended version of the Return of the King for Christmas, and whenever I watch it, I will think of you! JRRT would be proud of you!

~smiles~

You're a pretty good traveler in a pinch, though!

Ah...disaster averted. Check in.

And now we're gonna watch some anime Stephen brought called "The Cat Returns". Dunno what it's about.

Heh...as long as I don't have to hang onto a dwarf who's hanging onto an eagle.

Glad the check is in! Gots lights on my tree. Now I gotta go put wreaths up at Church and put lights on the 10' tree we have in the Sanctuary! That's gonna be fun, but I'm only doing it once! I'm telling them to leave the lights ON it when they take it down in January! I'll string the lights for the top seperately from the ones on the bottom, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Glad you made it home safely, lost luggage notwithstanding. That's a nasty storm that went through the Midwest, and it could have made for worse travel than you might have had!

You left KC at just the right time! It was in the single digits this morning and the chill factor stayed at -13 til at least 10:30 this morning. Glad you made it home safely.

Gypsy did not get her morning walk; I'll take her for one later this afternoon.

Weathermen are still saying 37 for Christmas Day and 50 the day after that.

We're going over to the brother's house for Christmas dinner....we're supposed to bring coconut cake, pumpkin pie, and the "green" salad. And Sister's gone shopping for eggnog and nog.

Well, back from shopping...

Santa pants are jeans for each family member which are wrapped and addressed as "from Santa". This sounds dumb, but it's complicated. See, we didn't 'do' Santa, until my littlest brother, who has Down Syndrome, went to private Catholic school and they told him Santa would be bringing presents. So he got so excited and wouldn't believe us that Santa doesn't... anyway, that year Santa showed up with gifts and all, and what the brother got was pants.

So to reinforce the idea that the presents are really from Mom and Dad, from now on we say "Santa brings pants" and hand out Santa pants. It's a lot of fun and a good way to get a new pair of jeans.

Didja get your money?

I've heard of that anime. I think it's older? Did you happen to get a package today?

Green as in lime jello or as in lettuce greens? With the coconut cake and the pumpkin pie, I could pass on the "green" salad (though OB probably wouldn't, he eats so healthy!)

Frrozen pipes? Surely not! Anything you need us to go over and check? OB's got a couple of pipe wrenches.

Sounds like a darling tradition! Keeps the spirit without letting things get out of hand.

We attempted to fetch the inlaws from the airport, but their flight out of Charlotte was canceled. Sooooo.... they're getting flown to Reagan Nat'l and bussed up to Baltimordor.... late tonite. I feel so bad for them! My MIL is busy making 'friends' with everyone, I'm sure. My FIL is probably sitting there with a clinched jaw.

Merry Christmas!

Can I come for dessert? Wife asked me what I wanted for dessert on Christmas Day. I said coconut cake so she was going to make a coconut cake and a chocolate mousse cake. Then her sister said she's bringing a caramel cake.

So wife said, "how 'bout a coconut pie instead." It just ain't the same.

"Green" as in lime jello (lime jello, cream cheese, celery, crushed pineapple, and pecans.)

Guess I'll find out about the pipes on Sunday. Everything's locked up. I'm worried mainly about the pipes to the washer...but they have that insulation stuff wrapped around them and the garage is insulated now.

I always worry about frozen pipes when it gets that cold. :)
