The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Good morning Corin, Boy you were up late!

Yawn, yes, yes I was...

Just checkin' in here and have to run over to my brother's house for the annual exchangin' of the gifts. It's a bit weird It's more of a business transaction than family fellowship. But they buy nicely for the boys (they don't gots kids), so I make sure we have it by Christmas day.

s'ok. Give's me a chance to "trim" his magnolia and holly trees...

For now, what I think I'll do is take the advice he's sending me, look through some of the books he suggested (Writer's Guide type stuff), and possibly write a few short stories or articles that he can critique and possibly send around.

But I also want to use whatever I can learn from those books to hack up and redo Teresa's story and the story I'm working on and whatever I write in the next year, and start looking into submitting them to someone.

I'd write anyway at this point, I think...but I gotta try! ;-)

Good. Take what you like from him and ignore the rest. I'm happy, my novel is progressing. I'm going to try to write more tonight. Dad is taking the boys to Panic Night - family male tradition to get the last present at the last minute - so we're hanging out here.

Mom and I are going shopping for Santa Pants (don't ask, I'll explain some other time) and groceries.

Actually, not this holly.

I haven't figured out what "flavor" of holly it is. But the leaves are waxy and don't have those sharp points. We've cut several holly trees out of our yard, cause they're the ugly, painful kind. But we cain't kill 'em.

Gotta run for now.

I like the German whites as well!! Schmitt Sonne is my favorite brand of those. Their Reisling is just yummy. I don't know why I don't think of them when I think of white wines. I immediately think of Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc, etc. DOH!

had pretty discouraging things to say about making it in the fiction world

No offense meant to you or your brothers, but your brothers always seem to have something discouraging to say to you. ;~D I know what that's like, my dad is the same way. He's Mr. Worst Case Scenario where dreams are concerned. It's easy to let those kind of folks stop you from trying, but I took a different tack. If the worst case scenario he could come up with was something I was willing to take, and had usually already thought about myself, it was a dream well worth pursuing! If I had listened to the voice of caution and wariness, I'd still be waiting to get a horse until my life was more settled and I had a place of my own.

And even better thing that we didn't wait until Christmas Eve to wrap packages.

Well, it looks like most of mine are gonna get wrapped tomorrow. I'll plant myself in the basement at my craft table, which is all set up for wrapping, just before 10 am, turn on the radio, and listen to "A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols" on public radio while I'm working. It's a tradition!

ARGH!!!! Just decided to check that today's paycheck is indeed in my account before going to the grocery with Teresa, and it's good that I did! NOT THERE!

Considering everyone else at work seems to get theirs the night before, I have no CLUE what the problem is. I usually at LEAST get it first thing in the morning, though! Now what do I do?

Grrrr...grrrrr...I'm steaming here, though I'm not sure who to be mad AT. I'm supposed to bring Margaret lunch at work, too! I have enough for that, I guess...but grrrrrrrrr!

I thought it was headed your way. It doesn't look like it's coming through here. It's supposed to be close to 50 here today. I just finished making the bows for the wreaths for the Church doors. Am going to put lights on my tree, then go up to the Church to change out the Advent wreaths to the Christmas wreaths. Don't want to wait until tomorrow because it's gonna get COLD again tonight. That it NOT a job to do with cold hands!

You'll never know if you don't try!

Oh yes....Reisling GOOOOOOOD! Of course, being of Italian bent, the Pinot Grigio is my favorite white.

I used to prefer red over white, but I think my tastebuds have changed. I like a good quality merlot, but a good cheap Paison jug wine usually does the trick too.

Good mornin' Suzi, Rosie, JenB, Lilfreeper, Ruthie, 2J, Corin, Hair, ecurbh, ExGeeEye...everyone!

Was up till one last night dealing with cookies...and Im STILL not done. Tried to do a version of the Amaretto di Saronno cookies my dad loves so much...dont know how he will like them. They are chock full of almonds

So what's the range of this big snowstorm in the central south? Bad in Tennessee... Kansas? Oklahoma? Missouri

Well...there was a pretty miserable rain in Atlanta last night and it's here in NC today. Flights to Cincinnati yesterday were getting cancelled or severely delayed. But then there were delays all overl the place.
