New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
|
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
"Nîn o Chithaeglir, lasto beth daer, Rimmo nîn Bruinen dan in Ulaer!"
Yes, very good! I can almost see the horses in it.
Bet ecurbh could photoshop some horses in...
Weather was so weird today, it truly felt just like spring (it also felt like New Orleans). We had days this past August that were colder than today. Goodbye snowpack and skiing.
Is it warm up there too? I wondered... if so the rivers are about to get even higher.
Yes, it's melting in the mountains -- I could actually see a dramatic difference in the snowpack on Mt. Rainier from a few days ago.
It's a notable year... they haven't had good skiing yet up there.
They're going to fine people for having a green lawn in Seattle next summer :~\
Hell no, they'll give them hard-time for that. Seattle are the people looking through people's garbage making sure they don't throw away anything recyclable. THAT they fine you for.
What kind of weather do you guys usually get in El Nino years, Hair?
Well, I thought El Nino was over a few years ago, I seem to recall that we had a lot of rain then ;~D I don't know what's going on this year, it's 60 degrees outside!
Well, I believe there is an El Nino every few years, though some are stronger than others. A few months ago word was that this was going to be an El Nino year again.
They always affect the weather worldwide...typical effects in the SE United States are warm, wet winters and low activity hurricane seasons, but I don't remember how they affect the rest of the nation. They do affect it, though. They can cause a lot of damage, I think.
Anyhow, maybe I'll try to Google up whether it actually materialized this year.
OK, found some info here http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/analysis_monitoring/enso_advisory/, it says we are in a weak El Nino, but disagrees with my assessment on SE USA effects, stating that El Ninos cause *cooler*, wet winters there.
Also this: "(Note: The recent pattern of heavy precipitation in California has been associated with 1) a persistent high-latitude blocking ridge in the vicinity of the Gulf of Alaska and an associated trough along the West Coast, and 2) a weaker than average jetstream across the central and eastern Pacific. These circulation features are not consistent with El Niño, which would favor a stronger-than-average jetstream over the central and eastern Pacific and a reduced tendency for blocking in the Gulf of Alaska."
And this: "Expected US impacts during Northern Hemisphere winter include warmer- than-average conditions in the West and in the northern Plains, and cooler- and wetter-than-average conditions for portions of the South and Southeast."
I will. I want to find a better host than Blogspot.
Speaking of "official." I got my invitation today...
That's okay. I just wanted it for framin' anyway.
Cool pictures.
That first one looks like the walkway to the "White Water Canyon" ride at Kings Dominion. ;-)
I am home and dinnered. Coffee is brewing. No school for anyone here tomorrow. No word about my work, but I'm sure since it's that "season" we won't be closed (and I'll need to go in even if we are).
Didn't get that much snow. But it came down wet and froze when it hit the ground. 100s of accidents all over. Radio has people callin' in sayin' they've been on the road for 4-5 hours.
Once I got out of the parking building and about a block away (that took 45 minutes), I didn't have any trouble coming home. 'Course I didn't take the Interstate.
Oh we are definately having some kind of unusual pattern... and I am disappointed. I was excited about snow.
Evening.... glad you made it home safe... coffee sounds good.
Glad you're home safe!
The weather here is mild and pleasant. Was supposed to go for dinner with my galpals but one got a more serious version of the mild flu that's going around and couldn't make it. Still I enjoyed seeing my other friend again. We're in classes together but this was our first chance to talk this semester.
Ugh. Did what I had to for tomorrow, now I need to somehow relax and get an early night.
