The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Yup, it was a good one, I suppose there's a live thread, but with Webtv it's a bit difficult to do both....

I've never seen it - what's the plot?

Hmm, watch a show in English... that's a revolutionary idea.

You can read the backstory here. The first couple of seasons were pretty good, until they fired the writer/producer most responsible for the good stuff. The third and fourth seasons became increasingly not good, and it's limping along through the fifth season now. What I have are the first season and half of the second season (before it all went bad...)

That sounds pretty cool, actually... vcds will play on the regular dvd player, right? It might be nice to have something to watch while I do homework (two main downfalls of anime: all the new stuff I have is in avi format, and also it's in Japanese so I actually have to pay attention...)

Good night! I should go soon, since tomorrow is a school day, but I am all wound up. Must cut back on mystery anime... sheesh, get myself off carbs and I get addicted to something else...

Oy! Rosie! I've been assuming your prolonged absense is due to a disconnected computer and long weekend of de-cluttering, but if you don't check in first thing in the morning we're going to assume you pulled a Ramius and are crashed in a ditch somewhere...

Well, at least the mystery anime won't make you put on weight! ;o)

Clare and I are going to see a stage version of "To Kill a Mockingbird" tomorrow with another h/s family. She starts her Chem class at the Comm. college tomorrow. It's considered a 'high school level' class, and they require it before she can take the regular Chem class with the lab.

Oh, chem, fun. At least at a low level...

Sigh. Tomorrow classes start. I am once again having my feelings of "I'm an imposter here, I'll flunk out so hard I won't stop bouncing until 2007". Oh well. I actually really like school, it's just that I'd like free time too.

Good morning!

Chin up, Jen...All of us have that from time to time.

Every time I start a new job, or even visit a new customer on the current job, I flash back to when I was eight years old and changed schools the first time...and I just know that's really who I am, that I only appear to be a competent adult on the outside, and any second now someone will figure it out and say "it's just a kid! take his lunch money and make him cry for mommy!"...

Doesn't last long, a second or two at most...but it's always there.

Current season of Andromeda is wretched. We enjoyed the first couple of seasons but lost track of it 'cuz the networks kept moving the air time. Upon watching the reruns on SciFi we've decided we didn't miss much.
