The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Steve's been up since 2am, sampling his wetland ever 30 minutes. I'm gonna make him some soup and take it out there in a thermos.

Morning everyone!

Severe thunderstorms with 70 mph winds last nite, with heavy rains.... then wintry mix... snowin' right now...

hopin' tuh get a hunt in this afternoon...

I tell yuh... the youth in our church is so apathetic it makes me crazy... I got the boys on Wednesday nite... 7th-12th grade... only boys that show are 7th and 8th graders... the older boys get dropped of by their parents and just "hang out" with the hi skool girls, who also skip out of the youth meetings... guess it just ain't kewl enuff fer 'em... the boys that do show up don't take it seriesly...

we're without a youth pastor, and the reg'lar pastor just retired... the education minister is too spineless tuh act on this... I've tried tuh "motivate" them (thekids and the staff)... I've failed...

I've never faced a leadership challenge that I couldn't handle... must be the Lord's way of humblin' me...

please pray fer our youth, the staff and me to re-light the fire of revival... 'preciate it...

I'm baking a loaf of bread too...even though it's not on Atkins, I figure he's burning calories enough to handle it sittin' out there in the cold.

Sounds like you're getting the last of what we got last night...it's clear and cold outside here. But not bitter cold...just over freezing, I think.

Only because you can't bean them with the butt of a rifle for not paying attention....

That's a tough age group to inspire... the key is probably to get the girls in.... the boys'll follow ;~D

I was wondering why you didn't show up again last night! Sounds like series progress is being made!

It's sunny but cold today. I just realized that Monday is a federal holiday, which makes me wonder whether my textbooks will arrive before classes start Tuesday... Some federal holiday, I'll be at work but at least it'll be fairly quiet. Maybe.

Got around to watching more special features last night, since I was computerless...I'm once again amazed at all the dedication to detail that went into everything, even stuff we didn't necessarily see or notice. It's just amazing! Last night I watched the part about designing the sets.

Especially because their attention to detail didn't waver depending on whether it would ever be seen. Same all the way through. I felt bad for the costume designer who talked about Eowyn's fabulous gowns, and then would say "and of course, Peter never showed it, just a head shot!"

half.com is the best place for textbooks, but you have to make sure you have the correct ISBN, so you know you're getting the right edition of the book. I bought duplicates of all of Joseph's school books this year so he didn't have to lug 50 pounds of books home each night. I can sell them all to the incoming freshmen next year, if the school is still using that same edition. In most cases they will be because they only change editions every 6 years or so.

I checked Half and Amazon used prices were actually better! Half looks cheap but they charge a fortune in shipping; Amazon marketplace has a flat fee.

Unfortunately our school seems to change books every semester... sigh...

Wish the dump was open. I don't think it is, though. Not on a federal holiday.

I have a ton to take on Saturday! Ugh...gonna cost me, plus I HATE lugging trash. I'm wondering what it would take to bribe someone with a pickup...

They're still stripping wallpaper. That room was the one that had warped paneling , then painted over wallpaper under that. It's been a pain to redo.

I may be contacting a realtor in not much more than a week.

Whoa!! That's great. You know you can contact more than one realtor for 'estimates', then go with the person with whom you feel most comfortable. You can list the house for more than the realtor suggests, too. You can always come down on the price, if a lower amount is offered.

When we sold our house in NJ, two realtors suggested 189K and two suggested 169K as a selling price. We knew that homes in our area had recently sold for as much as 189K, so we listed it at 199K. The only person who saw the house put a bid on it, within two weeks of our listing it, and offered 180K. We went back and forth a couple of times, then settled on 189K; just what we wanted.
