The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

LOL!

Either that or I'm just remembering my first days of working here...

The ground floor of the main building is the third floor!

You know it really bugs me that the news does interviews with 'experts' on how to talk to your children about the tsunami.

As if 'experts' would know people's kids better than they do.

We have far too many 'experts' in the world today. IMO.

Mornin'

Nothin' like checkin'your work email to have all the joy sucked out of your Christmas vacation.

I just keep telling myself...one year and three weeks, one year and three weeks.

I can do this.

I'm trying to figure out why little kids even need it explained to them at all.

OK - so when do I start spending money on this "Homer" dog? The dog needs to get on a round of Prednisone. I hope it's just flea allergy, will put him on Advantage anyway, but it would be just my luck, he'll end up being allergic to everything. We've given him two baths, used anti-itchy shampoo and anti-itch spray on him. But he is going to drive us batty with his scratching and licking.

Haven't heard any news of anyone looking for him, then?

I forget...did he have a collar or anything at all?

No news... I've reported him found at animal control... was gonna place an ad, but the online ad form at our paper is malfunctioning. There aren't any lost dogs in the paper that match his description.

Yeah - he had a collar, brand new one. But no tag.

It's not dead yet!

Just checking in before I have to face this pile of work. *sigh*

We have our "Year End Luncheon" this afternoon, so whoopdie-doo. *rolls eyes* I just want to finish my work and go home, not drag it out with crap like this.

SSQ's definition of an expert: An 'ex' is a has been, and a 'spert' is a drip under pressure.

But free food is always a good thing!

We have a similar deal tomorrow...actually get to go out to eat. Thai food, mmmmmm.

Officially, the college won't pay for it. In all likelihood, my boss and his boss will pick up the tab out of their own pockets. And I'll feel guilty.

I shouldn't, I suppose.

Thai food, mmmm...

Don't feel guilty, either. How often do you get a free lunch?

I know, I know...

Speaking of lunch...time to go heat up my soup!

And read some of your story. Just starting it again.

I think mine is too serious. Not sure how to fix that. Of course, once Mr. Love Interest shows up, things will change somewhat, but I'm already over 10k and it's been pretty much just her thoughts all that time, plus lofty blather from the elf-like dudes.
