The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Looks like it's almost over.

Are there any flights later today?

I think there's a recipe in my cookbook. Or I'll go online... internet's wonderful... I hope I got enough pecans. Surely I did, they cost enough.

Well, I've got my reality show downloading on bittorrent (unlicensed anime and reality shows... not that evil, am I?) and my lunch is packed, so I suppose I should be out the door in a few. Mr. Turkey is having a cold bath right now.

Nuts ARE expensive, aren't they? It amazes me just how much they are.

You really don't save anything by making pies at home, what with the cost of the ingredients! But that's not the reason I do it.

And pecans are the worst! But store-bought pie is nasty. Homemade pie... yummy...

PE detests pecan pie. For the longest time my teeth were incapable of handling the nuts. (yay! they're all fixed this year!) I have never made one, and doubt I ever will.

Crust..

Hmm, try using some of the nuts and grind them finely in a coffee grinder. Mix em up with some melted butter, and bake it till its a nice golden brown. Then let it cool before you put the filling in. I have never tried this with pecans, but it works for almonds.

Hmm... that sounds interesting. I might try it sometime, but today I have frozen pie crusts in my freezer already.

Pecan pie is the only pie I truly love. Oh, the delicious, 9000 calorie a slice taste of pecans in various forms of sugar and fat...

We have one local grocery that makes everything from scratch right there, and they do make some wonderful cakes and pies...Dad got the punkin pies there.

But homemade pecan pie with allll the calories...that's a wonderful thing.

So much for the diet, for a day or two. Ah well!

Time for another fifteen minute writing stint...except that I can't use my timer since my watch is on the fritz.

No worrying about diets tomorrow! I'm not even going to lift. I've been rather better about exercising than dieting lately... sigh...

THe army has today pretty much booked up for us. Wish we could have gotten down there to see the ponies. I did win a hooters wing party the other night, but it is only valid at the Tacoma location. $150 in free wings, could you or anyone you know put it to use? If so I will mail it to you. I won it in of all things an eating contest. Try to contain your suprise. I ate a plate of the hottest wings the fastest. WE want you to know how much we appreciate everything. I will try to talk to you again before we fly out if possible. We are going to SEA-TAC at 11 tonight. Thanks again.

Steve

Ummm.... calling a few guys... ;~D

Sorry you can't make it to see the ponies. The weather is a little dreary today anyhow I suppose but we were hopin'.

You have a great Thanksgiving! Hopefully SeaTac will be tolerable at the late hour.

Heh. It was about 3 inches and still coming down when I got up at 4:00 and it sounded like either the road crews hadn't gotten out or they couldn't keep up. I've got a couple of large oak limbs down and one was blocking the driveway. Good thing I moved the hand saw. I might work on the rest of the branches this afternoon.

I cleared the front walk and dug out the car. The neighbors must be wondering who that nut is trying to shovel snow with a dirt shovel. Where I'm from, everybody just waits a day or so for the stuff to melt.

I finished watching Airplane II...not as funny as the original.

I'll have to put a tape or a movie on or something. I'm reminded of one good reason to go to work...daytime TV sucks worse than nighttime TV.

I should make some soup or something. I was trying to spend quality time with the cat but all she wants to do is sleep.

With any luck, I'll walk through the door just as the turkey is hitting the table tomorrow. :)

Wow it's really coming down then! Aren't there neighborhood kids that will shovel driveways for five bucks?

If it keeps up will you still try to fly out?

The only available later flight left at 9:55 which meant I would have to drive in rush hour with the roads still not cleared all the way so I just said "the heck with that."

I should get in tomorrow at 12:45 which means I should be at The House around 1:30...just in time to eat but not in time to cook unless they decide to eat late.

My roommate Beth couldn't wear battery watches.... they always went dead quick so she had to stick with a wind-up.

I think it had to do with her personal electrical field. She ~always~ had static really bad, she was some kind of lightning rod walkin' around with her hair on end all the time. She'd stand and let someone else open the door because she was afraid to touch the knob. :~D

How's your static?

LOL! Too funny...

Happy travels to all of you, Steve!

It's stopped now and the sun is trying to come out. I can make it tomorrow morning if the roads are cleared today.

I guess I could get the neighbor kids to do it...they've already dug out the driveways of the two retired ladies. But I could use the exercise and I'm not ready to be lumped in the old lady category yet. :)

I've had good luck until the past two! But I'm getting disgusted.

I do have static problems, but I dunno if I'm any worse than the standard... ;-)

Heh...I remember one time, though, when I was in the military. We had some bigwig coming through...a general or something, I don't recall his name or anything now...and they had us all straighten up our areas and wear our best uniforms and lined us all up to shake hands with him. He went down the line, and when he got to me, I shook hands and there was an audible *SNAP* and sparks. Heh...he was nice enough to pretend nothing had happened.
