The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

It's just been raining and dreary here for days...we got a pretty good storm yesterday too...same one as you, msdrby, probably. I know it came up from Texas.

Sigh...

Well, at least I don't have anywhere to go...couldn't get there even if I did!

OT; I'm so sorry you missed your flight; it was probably best to not go today, the roads were really terrible earlier. Interestingly enough, the only weatherweenie to apologize for missing the forecast so badly was the 980 AM weatherguy; all the others have ignored their previous "just enough to cover the grass" prediction. Think we have an "official" 7 inches of snow here.

This snow is so wet and heavy it has really done a number on the trees and shrubs. Ive been out shaking the snow off the shrubs and small trees 'til I get wet and cold, come in, dry off, get warm, repeat.

Gypsy, on the other hand, thinks snow is the greatest! She even hauled out her "devil dog" squeaky toy from under the porch for me to throw. It didn't bounce much.

Ugh...sounds like you're getting the weather we by rights should be getting.

I ain't complainin'...

But that's too bad about the flight!

Meanwhile...since I'm stuck here with cooking supplies and no car, I thought maybe I'd make some pies for tomorrow. However, it appears that all my pie pans are out at the house.

*sigh*

I guess I could write, but I don't wanna.

Yay! I think I got the whole thing squared away in my story. She's going to help convince the not-Wright guy to go after his dreams (yeah, it's hokey...but it gets him out of the way...plus it takes a buncha words to explain), and she's falling for the right person again.

Whew.

Morning. Getting ready to go to work here. Turkey is thawing for tomorrow. I'm making the pecan pie tonight.

I really don't want to work today.

Are you making the crust from scratch?

I'm trying to decide if I wanna attempt that again. Last time it was edible, but definitely NOT pretty. I hate to go to the grocery...but those premade crusts are sooo much easier to handle!

No way. First off, I never have made a decent pie crust; second, I have been told that pie crusts are the one thing that are really, really tricky at this elevation.

I am making the filling, though! And some recipe that takes little dough rolls and turns 'em into bread or garlicy stuff...

I'm making rolls tomorrow, for sure.

I think I'm gonna go out for those Pillsbury crusts at some point, though the grocery is bound to be a complete zoo. Maybe if I wait until eight or so tonight it will be OK - I can always bake tomorrow. Want to make an apple pie and a pecan pie, or at LEAST a pecan pie.

I'll probably just use the recipe on the back of the corn syrup container, I guess.

Great. My watch just died. At least it's during a day off...but I just barely bought the thing! It should not have a dead battery!

Hopefully this one is capable of operating with a new battery. The last one never worked the same after the original battery was swapped out.

I was able to sleep in this morning cause Joseph didn't have school. I'm taking him and Clare and they're meeting several friends at 1 to see National Treasure.

I think we may go to the matinee and watch that this weekend. Everyone who has seen it has said it was a fun movie!

Our older two are not home this Thanksgiving so we're not doing a turkey. I have an Oven Stuffer Roaster, and will be baking the cornbread for the dressing later on today.

We decided to do something completely different this Thanksgiving. I'm going to put the bird in the oven on the cook timer in the morning, then we're going over to Worcester to help deliver Thanksgiving dinner to shut-ins.

The Diocese of Worcester hosts a dinner every Thanksgiving for those who can make it to St. Paul's, but there are about 925 folks for whom the meals need to be delivered. That's about 125 more than last year, so we're taking Shadowfax and helping out. I'm looking forward to it, and I think it will help the kids see just what all they have to be Thankful for, this year and every year.

I'm sorry you missed your flight this morning. What time will you arrive tomorrow?

I wonder if we'll get any snow later on in the week? I just hope we don't have any NEXT weekend, cause it's the Holly Fair, and I don't want it to get snowed out again!
