The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Does nothing for me either except to make me say, "Thank goodness my momma raised me right". Honestly. Some people have no... modesty.

Good Evening All and a Good Evening to you, sir. Plenty of room here. Come as often as you like and stay as long as you are able.

That is a 'vey' cool graphic on your home page.

I've taken the liberty of pinging the other low-lander.

Well, I guess I'm gonna commit a little blasphemy, here, but here goes...

Everyone here probably knows what I refer to, when I mention the Rankin-Bass versions of "Hobbit" and "ROTK", right?

Well, I'm of the mind that they were really good - considering that:

A.) They were made during the 70's, with the graphic artists and skills of the time; and

B.) They may have been eclipsed by the current Trilogy films, but they are EXCELLENT for introducing children to the wonder of the Tolkien mythos!

My little 7yo absolutely adores Tolkien now, because I showed him the Rankin-Bass films as an intro - and he's now a devoted fan!

Over the Bakshi?

Heretic.

Do I understand, that you use music to help you write parts of your stories??

I thought {{{ I }}} was the only fool that did that! I try and associate music tracks to help set certain moods. Major confrontations, for example.

Evening OT; The game came out as hoped I trust. You plan on adding 'Vito' to the cast of characters?

When small appliances go bad, part two. Both the coffee maker and the clothes iron rolled craps today. Got new ones from target not from 'the pawn shop' in Bree.

I was simply, amazed on the gizmos and what not on a coffee maker these days. Timers, brew strength, color coordinated, bells, automatic shut offs, sheeesh. Talk about tooo many choices. Happens to me every time I wander beyond the shire's boundary.

Well, the Bakshi (sp) version was good as far as it went - I adored it when it was theater-released back in the day...

But I'm glad 7yo saw the Rankin-Bass first, then he could handle the more graphic battle scenes in Bakshi... which prepped him for the Two Towers - Helm's Deep was pretty intense...

Well, since I'm currently getting inspiration from a really great song which I understand, oh, five words of - yes. But there are some English songs which I have almost found stories to write around.

Do you do "image songs"? Associate a song with a character or set of character or country or something?

And I find putting my favorite (foreign-language) songs on infinite loop helps me concentrate on writing without distracting me with pretty lyrical imagery.

Bakshi is an abomination. At least the animated RotK had the ever-popular "Where there's a whip" song.

Thank you twice - for the greets, and for the compliment.

I was and am, always moved by the legend of The Dutchman: condemned until released, never making port....

Well, I have been trying out two browsers today ~ Opera and Firefox. Opera is nice, but I am not convinced yet to keep it. Firefox is quiet a bit like Netscape, except that it loads *much* faster.

The Salvation Army never showed up. I called 'em twice and finally got told they ain't commin. See if I EVER try to donate anything to them again.

I'm just kiddin' ya.

We watched all three at Entmoot. Will have to again at Shootmoot next June. You should consider joining us in Missouri at Dogwood Ridge.

But, fair warning - never ever sneak up on g'nad.

I understand Firefox has this little problem - to update it, you must completely uninstall and reinstall. I keep thinking about switching but honestly, with the way I have my computer locked down, the programs I run once a week to kill spyware, and my internet savvy, I haven't felt the need yet. And for certain sites, IE is just better.

Also Firefox still has bugs, and Opera has a higher footprint. And since one can't uninstall IE anyway...

If you've been to ecurbh's site, the group photo of us at Entmoot was taking just before we broke into a chorus of "Where there's a whip".

I second the invitation to ShootMoot. If you turn out to be a pervert, it's safe enough, g'nad will kill you.

Hi, and welcome!

My 6 yr old adores LOTR. He has them almost completely memorized, as well as the Harry Potter series. Watching HP right now on network TV. Course, I don't know *why* since we have it on DVD.

Absolutely! Certain characters in mine, have their "signature tune", to help me get the character in mind.

For example, the fanfare from "The Ten Commandments" is just perfect for The King.

And for the King marching off to war, "Mars, The Bringer of War" from "The Planets" works perfect...

Other soundtrack tunes and classical pieces work so well!

I've been running Firefox for about a week. I love the fact that it stops the pop-ups, but it won't let java run.

If I could figure out a failsafe way to get rid of pop-ups with IE, or even with Comcast, I'd get rid of Firefox.

I've got the Windows pop-up blocker "on" but it doesn't seem to work. I'm thinking the problem is Comcast. I'm beginning to trust them about as much as I trust AOL.
