Freeper Poll: Should new sign-ups be frozen until after the election?
We're being flooooooooooded with trolls, as well as newbies who keep posting the same articles over and over.
Absolutely
Yes, they're so informative, aren't they?
Most gracious of you.
What NittanyLion says!
There should be a one month probabation period, where newbies can only reply to threads.
I'm a longtime lurker who was finally prompted to register and post by my passion over this election. I'm glad I was allowed to.
There are so many great ideas that come out on FR. And this is one of them. I agree with this idea.
I think that is a great idea.
But what about us troll hunters who get a weird pleasure out od catching trolls?
I could live with that one too.
Nah, no suspension of signups. Sadly, trolls and idjits are part of the price we pay for having the great discussion that we have here, and there are more people coming to this site every day that can really bring something to the table. Let's not throw out the proverbial baby with the proverbial bathwater.

Wait a minute folks! Maybe late to the party, but we're at the party non-the-less! I have a vested interest in this and every election. I am a proud American and conservative!
Now THAT is a good idea. I'd also suggest that they be required to respond 25 times before being allowed to creat a new thread. That'll help with sleepers. Granted they could just do a bunch of bumps, but one look at their post history will out them quickly.
I like trolls. they taste like chicken :)
Yes and no. We are a community and we often fail to gently correct the newbie who means well. Rather than posting to an existing thread, they open a new thread to say something like..."The seals were padlocks not official UN seals" Interesting point, but it should have been added to a thread about the explosives.
I mean how many NEW treads on election polls can you have?
FR then get fractured with hundreds of new threads and FR morphs into a chat board rather than a comment board of published works.
also from WA.
Glad there was no ban then.
> Should new sign-ups be frozen until after the election?
Overkill. Instead ...
Permit only FReepmail at account creation,
Enable response capability at 24 hours
Enable basenote posting at 36 hours.
Of course, any of this presumes that the various measures
are already coded, and ready to be switched on as needed.
The great and powerful Oz may have even more sophisticated
tools available, or, none of the above.
Absolutely -- can we backdate to 1 September 2004 at the very earliest. I am so tired of vanities and trolls!
