Help me Respond to a Liberal E-mail
Email from a liberal friend | October 28, 2004 | BFO

Posted on 10/28/2004 12:33:59 PM PDT by BFO

Here it is, your comments please. And be nice, it's from a Viet Vet friend who happens to be helplessly liberal...

Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards.

With his first swallow of coffee, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to insure their safety and that they work as advertised.

All but $10 of Joe's medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too.

He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.

Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air.

He walks to the subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards.

Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

Its noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression.

Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime.

After work this evening, Joe plans to visit his father at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards.

He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification.

Joe is happy to see his father, who is now retired and lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to.

Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day.

Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have."

This is a modification of an editorial some liberal ass-wipe wrote in a newspaper wrote several months ago. Upon reseaching all of his topics, the majority of good things mentioned were Republican inspired. Google it, you'll see.

Each and every argument a straw man, resting on the assumption that without a liberal such a thing would not have happened.

And it blithely overlooks the dark side of each liberal 'success.'

Liberals: Without trial lawyers, environmentalists, and unions, life would not be worth living. Says it all, doesn't it?

So, in other words, in Lib'ral Land, the ends justify the means.

Its easy to see how they could justify socialism, communism, naziism, and fascism with the same rationale.

Actually, to be fair to the Left, their real mantra is:
"The intent of the ends justifies the means. The reality of the ends is irrelevant"

"The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards."

Actually, two Republican Presidents (Nixon and Reagan) signed the major legislation involved in this (Clean Water Act). Look it up for the dates...

"some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too."

Thanks to union wage demands, the manufacturing sector took most of its labor to Mexico and China.

"The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air."

George H. W. Bush signed the Clean Air Act in 1990 (I think, maybe 1989?).

"government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime."

True. This is so that the Dems can have some high wage earners to steal taxes from.

" who is now retired and lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself"

Ummm...if he's living off Socialism Security and union pensions (pensions being funded by other people working), he's NOT taking care of himself but letting the gov't do so.

Daniel Boob is right. This is a yawningly easy email to refute. Why, just typing this response has made me fall asleeZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz........

Is the historically inaccurate point that it was liberal initiatives that gave "Conservative Joe" his standard of living? If so, ask your Viet Vet friend who gave us class warfare, educational failure, and Vietnam...among other things

Joe goes to work and sits down at his desk. Suddenly, an airplane guided by a radical Muslim slams into his building. Joe, along with all of his co-workers, blow up or burn to death instantly.

Joe is dead because some liberal wants to apply a "global test" in the war on terror.
Joe's wife is a widow because some liberal thinks terrorism should be fought soley by law enforcement.
Joe's children have no father because some liberal is too great a coward and too politically correct to stand up to Muslim terrorists around the world.

Why is Joe's dad taking my money via his social security check when he lives in an already-paid-for house with his son who has a well-paying union job?

Don't forget welfare, legitimized illegitimacy, the Sexual Revolution, no-fault divorce...

(For the social dimension.)

With each item, like clean water, clean air, safe drugs, tell your friend, "I'm a conservative, are you saying I want you to drink dirty water? breathe dirty air? die from unsafe drugs? When did you start believing these things about me?"

For what it's worth, here was my initial reply...

Any idea why Joe's gas costs $2.50 a gallon?
Fed taxes (supposedly to pay for road improvements - hah!) and anti-drilling liberals.

Any idea how many life saving drugs are hung up awaiting FDA approval?

Any idea how much the FDA approval process adds to the costs of R&D for these drugs?

Any idea how long the approval process delays the availability of those life saving drugs, on average?

I'm glad to hear Joe gets to ride to work on my dime. I don't recall having a choice on "being a contributor".

Fannie Mae is a non governmental lender. They get tax payer subsidies (federal guarantees) which enable them to undercut traditional lenders who don't have such guarantees, again on my dime. And their books are a shambles. We may see them crumble in our lifetime. I suppose Joe and I will get to bail them out, too.

I'm gald I was able to pay for Joe's Dad's lights, but again I wasn't asked. What's wrong with a generator until demand is sufficient to entice someone willing to risk their own capital, not mine?

I'm glad to hear Joe doesn't have to take care of his Dad. That's really touching. He must be relieved. Remember the old days when children took care of their parents? Joe sounds like a selfish asshole.

Joe's safest in the world car is his only because he has an excellent paying job. The safety modifications have added thousands, if not tens of thousands, of dollars to the price of the vehicle. I'm surprised the liberals don't consider these safety features to be racist, since the average minority cannot afford to ride in such safe and pampered style.

Does Joe realize the FICA tax rate will have to be increased to over 20% to support the SS Ponzi scheme? He better have an excellent paying job and a strong union. And when he dies, there's nothing left. Some "Investment".

Hey, I'm bald as a cue ball, I don't give a sh_t what the f__k I put on my dome.

Anyway, you get my jist. There is a price to all these freebees.

Joe remembers a time when unions actually represented the interests of the rank and file workers.

Joe wonders why the unions have sold out the workers and instead funnel their hard earned pay to the DNC for use in their own pet projects.

Joe is late for work as he has sat around musing about the DNC's talking points.

Viet Vet friend who happens to be helplessly liberal...

If your friend believes half of that, he is beyond liberal and into full Socialist mode.

Joe wishes that every other part of his life could be taken care of by Dems. There are only a few pieces of his day that haven't been padded, coddled and otherwise usurped from his control. Why don't you have a Dem choose the roads you take on your drive? Have them choose the channel for you when you watch TV. Have them pick the brand of coffee you drink, because you certainly can't take care of that yourself. We know all businesses are EEEeeeeevil, so Folgers just can't be trusted.

Joe doesn't seem to want to take control of any part of his life at all! Does Joe have "Tax all my money away. Just make sure you take care of everything and make my life nice. K?" tatooed on his forehead?

The most difficult part about arguing against the status-quo is that we'll never know what "might have been." It is a complete fallacy to presume that, because environmentalist wackos have managed to regulate water quality to the Nth degree, we would otherwise be drinking swamp water.

The fact is, many of these things Joe mentions would have happened, more or less, without Dem pressures. Many good things come to be because of natural market pressures.

Next, ask Joe how much the union member spent in dues during his career? Calculate how much that money would be worth today if it had been saved and invested instead of spent on the union. I'm sure he would be surprised to find out that his union dues were largely wasted.

In conclusion, to prove the arguments he makes, he would have to compare how things ARE to how the WOULD HAVE BEEN without Dems. Since this is impossible, each of his arguments is based on a false assumption: None of these things, or their benefits, would have occurred without Dems to do it. That's just plain false.

How is this, for a start:

Jose gets up at 6 a.m. and fills tries to fill his coffeepot with water, but once again, no water because the socialist controlled water system is functioning. He goes to the cupboard to get some coffee, but again there is no coffee due to the coffee shortage.

The water is always a murky brown and has been for as long as he can remember because the government owned water treatment has not been updated in years.

With his first swallow of the water from the village well, he takes his daily medication, which he waited in line for six hours to get; it is too bad he could only get enough for a week and not a month as he had hoped. His medications are always short because of the government run system never seems to have enough of anything.

Jose's medications are paid for by the government, because his employer's company was taken over years ago. The medical plan is good, he only had to wait two days for the doctor set his son’s broken arm because of the shortage of doctors in his town.

He prepares his morning breakfast, no bacon, no eggs, only oatmeal with water and a banana picked from his own tree. The market has been out of eggs for six weeks now. But maybe next week the government official says. He hopes he is right. Jose's bacon is not missed, he has forgotten what bacon even tastes like.

In the morning shower, Jose reaches for his shampoo, but then he wakes up and is realizing how much he misses a hot shower. Maybe he can take one at work tomorrow, if the line is not too long.

Jose dresses, in the same old jeans he wears each day and walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean, free and one thing that he can still enjoy without government approvals.

He walks to the subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work, but again it is not working today, so he will walk the three miles to his work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees to walk and it is good exercise.

As he walks he sees the old newspaper office where he worked as a young boy. It is sad that it has been shut down. Mr. Avila was a nice man, Jose wonders if the stories he heard about him are true – taken in the middle of the night, forced to watch his daughter raped by the soldiers, she was only twelve.

Jose walks past the picture of the Presidente and stops. He looks at it and thinks what life was like back then. He pauses and then spits on the picture.

“HEY! YOU STOP” a soldier is running towards him.

He starts to run, but is grabbed by another soldier; the club aimed for his head. Jose feels the sudden thump to his head and collapses to the ground. The warm blood starts to get in his eyes, but he hardly notices that as suddenly the soldiers are on him and continue to pummel him without mercy. Jose's, family are grateful, as they carry his casket to the cemetery. Funerals are now covered as part of the government health system that the Presidente implemented years ago.
