Article link above shows many nice pictures, but site is slow, so I only chose the two below. My suggested caption is underneath it. Feel free to suggest your own for the sake of levity. I've reduced the size for display; click for the full-size pic.

"If you take one step back and slide to the right just a little, dear, the picture will be perfect."

"I'm glad Georgia O'Keefe didn't see this."
TOPICS: Arts/Photography; Education; Outdoors; Science
KEYWORDS: etna; flow; hot; lava; magma
This may prove that geologists don't have a very good sense of humor.

Hey, I missed this the first time I looked at the site today. Several short Quicktime videos of the eruption (I'm a sucker for a lava flow):
Films de l'eruption 2004
(One of them is mis-linked; I wanted to see the one with the guy standing in front of the lava flow, but that's the one that's linked to a different video.)

Oh, I don't know. What do they call a crystal-filled fissure?

So that bottom picture is of Mother Earth? We have to be careful not to mistype Mt. Etna as Ms. Etna.

I always thought lava looked cool. Resist the illusion... It is really hot.

I don't know why, but the "Spitting Image" puppet of Madonna, complete with belly button, came quickly to mind.[Think "Land of Confusion" Video from the '80s]
I couldn't find an image I could post. It seems the Phil Colins video version was covered more.
I'm also mindful of Hanoi Jane's latest get-out-the-vote effort.
Now I'm worthless for the workday,....thanks.
