OK, here's a WhereIsIt? Challenge. A bit of "rules" -- it's not hard to find out from the source code what the name of this place is, or by just downloading the image, so AFTER you've posted a guess, feel free -- but wait until tomorrow (September 21) until I post the answer here to say what it is if you find out that way. If anybody gets it in the next three hours, I'll confirm immediately. I've also provided some clues that might be used to figure it out. Finally, for those of you that liked last week's Great Sand Dunes pictures, see the link in the first comment, but I caution against trying to view the high-resolution version in a browser. I downloaded it and used the "Imaging" utility successfully to view it. The image on the page is a full-resolution excerpt.
Now for the challenge:
Clues:
1. An interstate runs through it.
2. The second half of the name of this place is a useful strategy in poker.
3. Islands in the Lake (a while ago).
4. If you go north from here, you'll find black water, but further north you'll get to clear water.
5. If you're running, it's pretty average.
If you get this using the clues, feel free to demonstrate how clever you are!
** where is it ping **
Gray Rocks and Trees State Park.
Dang! Beat me.
It's near Springfield.
[Something] Bluff ? that was...
Forgot I can't ise pointy brackets here.
Millbluf
Great picture, by the way.
So far so good... do you know where it is, or just the name?
Actually, two interstates run through it if you consider Rts. 90 and 94 are conjoined at this point.
Blackwater Falls is about an hour north. Eau Claire (clear water) is about two hours north.
This is one of my favorite areas of Wisconsin.
So Cal Rocket posted pictures from this Web site, so he probably figured it out too!
"Islands in the Lake" refers to the fact that these formations were islands in a glacial lake that filled central Wisconsin at some point during the Pleistocene glaciations.
"If you're running, it's about average" means run-of-the-MILL.
Here's some more information:
And Barnacle forgot to add: on the drive north from Madison, this is THE scenic highlight. A couple of times I went from Oshkosh to Eau Claire (a sad romantic tale), and took Highway 21 across to the 90-94. Had to stop here each time when I did that.
I knew it was Bluff....and I woulda guessed upper midwest too but I refrained from looking at your properties....and lost....lol
Interesting area.
