Eleventh Thread: Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
You're not the first person I've heard tell a tale like that one, Bear.
It's incredible to believe an animal would run in ~front~ of a car, but apparently they do. Maybe they are kamikazes!
That week will be talked of for years to come, I'm sure.
No one could remember that many snow days happening in a YEAR before, let alone during one week! It was nuts!
Made for some purty views, though.
Mmmmm, I bet. Were any of the heavy falls at night? Few things more magical than a heavy snowfall at night.
Just as well you weren't driving a Volvo, it might have blown up...like in the Long Kiss Goodnight.
Sure are a lot of kamikaze squirrels, for one.
I swear, they sit on the side of the road waiting and doing whatever squirrels do, and when a car runs by, they TEAR INTO THE ROAD! Why??? It's as if every squirrel had the game of chicken mixed in with all their other squirrely instinct, some of which are somewhat logical...
I gots ta get to bed! I'm tiiiiiiired...
hehheh... yah... I know. I haven't hit one yet, but I've come close. It's like they have a deathwish.
Had a wierd experience with a herd of elk one time. out on forest service road in Oregon. my buddy and I are out scouting for deer, driving out after a long day. this whole herd of elk, maybe twenty or so... jumped out into the road in front of us. we stopped short... and they all came running right at the pickup... passing by close on either side. we started forward again after they passed... and suddenly they all turned around and came running for the truck from behind... and passed by on either side again. they disappeared on up the road.
we were just sitting there looking at each other sayin' "what the heck was *that* all about?"
Kind of wish I'd seem those.
Domo arigato!
Ah... now with this, and dinner, my day finally improves...
I love the SOUND of heavy snowfall at night, when there's nothing to overwhelm it. It's hard to even describe that to someone who's never experienced it.
They're Geico squirrels!
During seminar, I filled in most of my plot holes. Now, name my heroine and I'm golden!
But in a bad mood. We got another person added to our group project and I am most wroth.
Roger that. The sound of snow. Love it.
I think they're just not bright enough to realize they don't have to outrun the car.
One time, on a slippery, snowy road, I actually missed a deer by using the Nascar Rule of Avoiding Wrecks. I aimed *for* the deer, and by the time I got there he had managed to jump out of the way.
'zactly. :)
Have a good night!
Most of the windows are going to be 3 x 5, with a transom window above. There will be one curved wall where the windows are 2 x 5. We don't have much of a problem with flying debris to damage windows. The majority of the big windstorms are Nor'easters, and the wind will be coming from the opposite side of the house where these windows will be. There will be few windows on the North side of the house; there's not much light there anyway because there are lots of trees on that side.
We can't wait for the new family room and kitchen to be bathed in bright sunshine every morning!! The windows we're getting are super good quality, and with the radiant under the floor heat, it's gonna be nice and toasty in the winter!
How do you feel about horses?
Not sure those are much smarter than deer.
I admire deer, though, in spite of my desire to eat the things.
It sounds very exciting, Suzi.
I agree! I've talked to AZ friends about how I love the sound of falling snow, they always go "Huh?"
The sound of snow, yes!
hehehehe...I'm gonna remember that rule. May come in handy some day!
