Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
[stretttttch...] Oh man... I'm back in da waterin' hole after a seriously monsterous week. [sip]
I am so, so, so, tired of Sorbanes-Oxley. I was tired of it before... but after this week... the workload of it has ramped up probably thrice what I thought it was going to be... and I thought already that it would suck. At this point it is a foregone conclusion that I'm going to fail the audit. All I can do now is try not to fail the audit in any "really important" ways.
I'm actually starting to get angry about it. This SOX stuff has been building elsewhere in the company for the last couple of years, but I only found out about my stuff in March of this year, and back then it was really badly underestimated. All they wanted to see was policies, and that is something that I have very nicely covered. The problem now is all about documenting daily activities. Not good news. Almost everything we do is done via phonecalls and email. Neither of which is sufficient documentation of changes. So now I need to document and prove that approvals were recorded for every single change made to any system, any time, any where.
Any systems? any change? anything? Are you KIDDING?
It is beyond stupid. If this stuff sticks my department will have no time to actually do anything. We will be swamped in documentation to the point where no actual help will ever be made available to anyone in the company.
I needed to start working on these things about a year and a half ago, in order to be ready. After this week, I've been informed of a whole host of new things that need to show a history of a year or more... things that I only found out about a couple of months ago, and a few of them only last week.
The audit begins in October. It ain't gonna happen.
Sometime in November I'm going to be making a presentation to the BOD, and it is going to suck.
I think I need a new job. This one isn't any fun anymore.
I am a little lost and tempted to post the bunny pancake picture!
Is Sorbanes-Oxley a new denomination of the ISO-9000 cult?
Argh... Friday nights shouldn't be for homework...
I wish... ISO 9000 (in our case, ISO 9001) was a piece of cake compared to this. We were ISO certified five or six years ago. I forget when, but it was nothing at all compared to SOX.
Sorbanes-Oxley (aka SOX) was the legislation passed in the wake of Enron... to make CEO's and CFO's personnally sign off on the "believability" of any publicly-traded company's financial reporting. In order to show SOX level documentation I have to be able to prove that "any change" at "any time" made to "any system" is completely documented, approved, and processed according to company policy. By "any" system it means really everything... You want to apply the newest patch to XP on your computer? Sure... but you need to fill out a form to make sure that the change to your system is approved, and that the proper forms are printed and filed in advance of the "change". Then the application of the change must be tracked and approved through the chain of command, once applied.
If this remains true... we will be completely unable to actually help anyone in the company. I will have to require everyone to do such insane documentation of their work that it will result in no actual work ever being done.
I've had enough of this.
Yuck... I thought ISO-9000 was tedious enough.
Want to go buy a coffee farm in Africa?
I've been interviewing tonight for a bartender position here at da waterin' hole. It just might work out... :-)
Hank & Jacks!
BTW... I wish it was merely tedious. Tedious, I can deal with. This stuff has crossed into just plain insane. It is going to hamstring us.
Is it required? By the government? That's insane... do they want companies to go to India?
You're not an eyesore, and you know it! ;o)
I'd ignore the fools!
I put your Mom on our Parish Prayer list this week. Glad she's doing better!
I be's famous! ;o)
SOX is a new federal requirement for any company that is publicly traded. Since we are a public company, we must comply with the new rules.
What's in a Harvey Wallbanger?
Thanks for the pictures! Looks like a good crowd, and you're a mighty handsome feller!
ROTFL!! That's how it's gonna feel to them long about Nov. 1st!
Harvey Wallbanger:
Ingredients:
1 oz Vodka
1/2 oz Galliano
4 oz Orange juice
Mixing instructions:
Pour vodka and orange juice into a collins glass over ice cubes and stir. Float Galliano on top and serve.
Any questions?
Sounds like you can get the job!
