Eleventh Thread: Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |

It was AWESOME!! The Chorale was just wonderful, and the orchestra as well. The boy soprano was a little shaky at first, but did well on "In Dreams". Our two featured performers were Carolyn Betty as the mezzo soprano on the parts where Gandalf is chasing away the Black Riders over the soldiers returning from Osgiliath, the music when Gollum is falling into Mt. Doom, and when Frodo and Sam are rescued by the eagles. She was very good!! Susan Egan sang "Gollum's Song" and "Into the West", and did very well too!
The conductor was from your neck of the woods. Alastair Willis is the Resident Conductor of the Seattle Sympony. He clearly was enjoying himself. I sprang for seats in the 'Orchestra, which was about halfway between the stage and the back doors. The Hall isn't that large, so we could see very well. I'm so glad we were able to go, but the enjoyment of the day was marred by the tragic accident that occured at our Parish Festival. Part of a ride apparently broke apart, and a man fell out of it and died, and another is in the hospital in serious condition.
I had been at the Festival about 11:30 to set the Grill up and get it ready for the friend who was covering for me so I could attend the concert, then left about 12:30 to go home and get ready. When Clare and I got back about 7:30, just in time for her Confirmation rehearsal, we saw a bunch of satellite trucks from the networks. We hadn't listened to the radio or anything since we had left town about 1:15, so we didn't know anything about it. The accident happened about 2, and they shut the Festival down right then.
My friends all feel so bad about it, not only for the man who died, and the one who was injured, but also for the kids who witnessed it!
I'll show her tomorrow. She conked out while I was reading to them tonight, so I told her to wake up and go to sleep! ;o)
Oh my goodness, that was at your festival? I saw a thread on it and kinda wondered, but then said "Nah, not likely." How terrible!
Did Clare's confirmation go ok anyway?
I saw a thread about that accident. Sorry it was so close to home for you.
By the next moot, I might be pretty good at it!
Heh, for 'proof' that Clare has taught herself Japanese this year, she's going to write a translation for an Anime that she watched this year. It is in Japanese with no dubbing or subtitles, so I figure if she can divine what they're saying, she must know from Japanese.
I just realized how chilly I was, and put on my fleece vest. Ah, toasty!
You used it perfectly!!
ROTFL!!
Clare's Confirmation is tomorrow night. It was rehearal tonight. Father Paul didn't come over for it because the Police chief told him to just stay in the Rectory so the press wouldn't pester him. There wasn't anything he could really say about it, except he issued a statement asking for prayers for the victims and those who witnessed the accident.
The folks who were running the Festival were just heartbroken about it. They're good people and good friends.
Oh my, Suzi! Glad you enjoyed the concert, but what a terrible thing to come home to.
Not referring to the computer.
I finished painting my sewing room this weekend. It's blue blue blue! Will start moving furniture in today. I may run down to IKEA to get another book case and a table thingy. There's a computer cabinet I'd like to get but I can't fit the box in the Jeep and I have no eq for strapping it up on top. So I have a dilemma- have them ship it ($$$$) or rent a uhaul ($$$+hassle) and go fetch it. The cabinet will probably have to wait for another day.
Then draft a letter to the commander- but be coy. Tell them what a joy it is to see them flying overhead, that you and the boys like to run out and wave, and thank them for their service. Avoid anything about the circling or waving back. ;)
Oops- just read the letter (I go through my pings backwards). It's a great letter but I'd leave out the part about the acknowledgement- let that be a little secret between you and the pilots. If they're not supposed to be doing that they'll get in trouble. *BUT* if they're not supposed to be doing that and the commander gets this wonderful letter from the "crazy lady", he may give them permission to circle and wave and they'll get to do it more often. Just a thought.
Sleepy hobbitses
Fleece is a wonderful thing!
Brrr...only 35 here. It was 37 at home, but that ain't much better...I got out my winter coat for the first time!
At least any frost had thawed by the time I got out. Didn't have to scrape the car. But I'd better find my gloves soon so I'll be ready when I DO have to...
Good morning!
It's a crisp, cool day out there. Lovely, though! The leaves are just starting to change. It's misty...there are few things prettier than a bright red and orange maple standing by a river, half wreathed in mist. *sigh* I do love this time of year!
Suzi, I already said it on the other thread, but once again...your parish is in my prayers.
