PERSEID METEORS: The Perseid meteor shower is underway. Every hour, 10 or so meteors are streaking from the constellation Perseus, and that number will increase 3- to 5-fold on Wednesday night, August 11th, when the shower peaks. [More]
Got clouds? Try listening to the Perseids:

How I envy my dentist, he's visiting his son aboard the Coast Guard tall ship off the coast of Maine!

Try the link to the sounds the meteors make. I listened for about an hour this afternoon, really strange.

ELE
Extinction Level Event
The Tunguska event was a Perseid fragment. I hope that if something does hit (short of ELE) it hits somewhere in the Muslim world, otherwise they'll claim that Allah is smiting the infidels.

I was at the beach a couple of years ago,( at this same time of year), and witnessed this meteor shower. It was awesome! They aren't kidding when they say some of them are bright. A few of the ones I saw, lit up the whole sky. I'm going to try to get to the beach again.. I hope it's not overcast. Thanks for posting this.

I'm headed to my cottage in northern MI for the weekend. Those dang northern lights will probably wash the whole bombardment out, lol. I have seen them under ideal conditions which is more like 100 a minute.
