The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

It is quite warm and sunny here. We walked around downtown -- big shopping and restaurant area (don't know the name if it has one). It was quite pleasant and rather lively for a big city downtown on a week night. I'm not going to get into the mountains this trip, but of course I can sure see them from my room. Business trip (never as much fun having to come someplace on business).

Tourists that come in the autumn to drive around at look at the leaves and take pictures of the older churches and houses

Don't forget the covered bridges!!

Rosie's right, Hair. You really need to see this sometime. At the peak of foliage season, it looks like the trees are on fire!! They are gorgeous!

Good morning!

WN, glad you're back. Did school start this week?

Corin, glad Nana's more or less ok. Hope it's no more serious than it is right now.

Rosie - I'm going to miss being the leaf-peeper sort this year! I don't think the fall foliage is as spectacular out west.

Ksen - hit your FIL over the head, knock him out, put him in the car, and go. If you stay anyway, keep us posted so we can pray. Oh, and let me know what you think after FMA 46...

That's right, I need to get another cookie cd ready for Rosie...

Rosie's right, Hair. You really need to see this sometime.

Maybe Entmoot 2007 should be fall-ish and we can drive up for the leaves one day or so.

I've always wanted to visit Peyton Place...mmmm Lana Turner and Hope Lange...

Fine with me if 2J wants to do the packages. You've done a great job on them, and she already knows how to do them so there won't be any learning curve needed.

I'll drop a check in the mail today to help with the postage!!

Ugh, I only have Mondays that are anything like that, and Mondays are only about 12 hours. I keep saying at least I don't have to work like that on Friday...

How long do the weeks from hell last?

Definately not, but you'll love it when the aspens turn.

Yeah, I'll have to get up there and look at them - down here on the flats I don't think there are many aspens. There are a few different deucidious trees, but not as many kinds as the northeast.

Myranda and Sharon are good. They moved into their own place last week. She called and gave me a list of household goods that she needed "just in case" I had anything extra. hehehe

So, guess who's making a trip down to Austin this weekend with a pickup load of various furniture, kitchenware, linens etc. :-)

I am happy to be filling up their little home. They've rented a little house down on Lake Austin just below Lake Travis. It is heartwarming to me because I used to live right on the shore of Lake Travis only a short distance from their place. And as Myranda described the place they rented I realized that I had friends living there way back in the early 80's. (you may read that as - WN partied in that place way back before Myranda was ever a twinkle in anybody's eyes!)

A fall Entmoot would be cool! We could host it here, and it's about a 2 or 2 1/2 hour drive to the Flume, up in Franconia Notch, NH. A lovely hike through a deep gouge in the granite with waterfalls and everything! I took Flat Frodo's picture there (the 'Ithilien' one). Near there is Echo Lake, and I took Frodo's picture there, too, surrounded by the mountains. There are closer places to look at foliage, too, but the Flume is gorgeous!

I think I'm about 3 1/2 to 4 hours from Rosie.

I will let you know as soon as I can determine the answer! It started a week and a half ago. *shudder*

I'd love a fall entmoot, but it wouldn't work so well for me (or WN?) because of school. Thanksgiving break is too late, Labor Day weekend is too early...

They're predicting frost in some areas tonight...that means the leaves are gonna start turning.

Kinda early! But I'm still looking forward to it.
