Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Hill and water under sky
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I don't think that was her. I could be wrong.

It's kind of a milestone, in that I've been aware of ... Also means 30 is vey close. That's another I'm trying not to think about. Have been there, know exactly how you feel...although I felt really old when I realized I was 35 rather than thirty...meant not that long before I was facing 40...and I am 37 now.

I wouldn't mind getting older if I had a family.
It's getting older alone that disturbs me.
Hopefully it doesn't stay this way.

The Mask of Zorro and The Last Samurai are the first two that pop into my head with the most realistic swordplay. Princess Bride is always good for sheer style, if not the greatest degree of reality. :) Finding 'real' swordplay is difficult in Hollywood. I'll keep you posted as I remember more.

oh my, that sounds like a disastrous party! I think I would be mortified if that many things happened at my house. I hope everyone is okay now though.

Well, you have good taste - I love those movies! Also "The Count of Monte Cristo" had nice fencing and nicer costumes...

Nice challenging words. What grade is he in this year?
Just got back from buying books for Joseph for high school. I was able to buy three of them used and saved a good bit! Got those three for $80, but they're all hardback major books without a lot of marks or underlining. I still spent $270 on the other books, locks for his lockers, and his gym uniform. That's not so bad. I only have to buy two more books ($60) that were out of stock at the school. I'm not going to bother trying to get them on line; the prices aren't any better, and I may not get them by early next week when he'll need them.

Ugh. I turned 30 this summer. People say it's not so bad. But I'm not so sure.

Tanks. I felt silly ordering it in August, but they're obscenely expensive any other time of the year.
See y'all in a bit. Today's my early day and I'm remembering to go home on time.

Oh! And in other good news (I'm trying to find some silver lining in an otherwise bummer day) ...
I'm a published author. The first of my several technical reports was sent into distribution. Wahoo!!!
