The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

She was just flapping down off my lap

She likes to visit with me while I hang out the laundry...

*nod* I've met some decent chickens, and honestly that rooster wasn't so bad, unless you were trying to bathe him or give him his medication!

When we were painting the chicken coop, Roy got into the paint...all down one side of her was covered in paint. I jerked her up and my husband saw what had happened and was already filling the kitchen sink with warm sudsy water. I just ran in and plunged her in that warm water. Startled her a bit at first but she immedietly got used to it and just let us scrub and rub on her! It was a hoot! She acted like it felt nice! I remember thinking "So much for the saying "Mad as a wet hen!"

I could go on and on about our girls. We really love 'em.

Be nice to have a vet around here! ;-)

My husband graduates in May. He's getting his masters in Environmental Science. I'll be doing that dance myself then!

Hrm, it's bad when you're writing a necropsy report and are incredibly tempted to put 'while there was generalized lymphadenopathy, there was emphatically no lymphatic abcessation or other abherration present.' I think it's time for a break and a coke. :)

Hooray! Passage came today. I just have to finish the book I'm reading and then I'll be starting that.

I'm also thinking of picking up Three Men in a Boat, just 'cause...but that's another request from another library, OR I can read it online during my lunch breaks - Project Gutenberg has it.

Hurrah! Oh frabjous day!

Class went much better today than Tuesday. I'm not so terrified. Plus I managed to figure out the first part of a programming assignment, so all I have to do is, well, do it.

Unfortunately, animals can't tell us what hurts or how much something hurts. What we can evaluate is decreased activity, less desire to play, irritability, decreased appetite and other factors along the same lines and whether pain medication seems to change any of those. Also, some animals are far more stoic than other about pain and just won't show it no matter what happens.

This is what I am really trying to get a sense of. He seems like a happy cat. Social, purrs easily, likes to get out whenever the door is open... He hunts, chases birds, tries to climb trees but is way too fat.... He doesn't look like an animal in pain. I am pretty sensitive to recognizing a suffering, I think.... I knew my horse was colicky when the vet said he was fine.... and the vet agreed I was right to see ~something~ wrong in him when he had to return later the same day when Bay got worse.

If the eye looked inflamed, or he avoided touch to it, or seemed to be hurting in any way, I wouldn't hesititate. I just wonder if I don't need to see if it gets worse, or see if there is a better emergency to spend a lot of money on. He's an old cat in his teens. He could die of natural causes before the sutures heal and I would just be $500 poorer with less to spend on my other animals....

These are the issues your clients will grapple with - it ain't as easy as people medicine where there aren't so many choices on what's elective and what just needs done.

I love my chickens...LOL!! I was scoffed at a bit here when I said I wanted to get some chickens as pets..

I wouldn't say ~scoffed~.... none were so harsh as to scoff! It's just eccentric and amusing is all!

during the next few weeks, John Kerry should take the time to finish the debates with himself.

I just love George W. Bush! Have you heard about the latest Gallup poll? In a two way race, Dubya has 50%!!!! Flipper is at 47%

Yay! Tomorrow's Friday!

Heh...been in a crabby mood all day. Miss Kitty decided to wake me up at 4:30 this morning for some reason....probably wanted to make sure I was still in good enough shape to open up the cat food cans.

I can use a drink....got highball glasses.
