The Hobbit Hole XIV - Hill and Water Under Sky

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Hill and water under sky

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I just mean the thing you can do on your computer then print on your own printer. Doesn't JenB have something like this?

Are you really making donuts?

Nope...just remembering the ad where the guy (whose job was to make the donuts) says that as he heads out the door.

Just one event, three parts.

Did they drop the stand-alone jumping, dressage, and cross-country events? Not that it matters, only the final day of stadium jumping is ever shown. Maybe the Canadian coverage will be better.

...do you know where I can get replacement parts for an old Saab? Or an old Mustang?

Not so much about the Saab...I'd ask at a Pep Boys if there isn't a for-real Saab dealer in your area...failing that (they specialize in wierd parts, sort of) you could try NAPA or CarQuest...and you'd be (maybe) surprised at the stuff that shows up on eBay Motors.

As for Mustangs...between Mustang fan clubs and owners' groups with online presence, and the plain popularity of the things, that should be pretty easy too...for that one, ya gotta have a Ford dealer around with a friendly parts manager who could steer you the right way...there are all kinds of classic Mustang owners, and while the most series work on their own rides (some of them built 'em from wrecks and junkyards), there are those who have a cherry '66 'Stang only because their local Ford guy or unaffiliated mechanic/body shop keeps it up for 'em.

Good luck! And get the general JC Whitney catalog, just to see what all's available.

Just one [equestrian] event, three parts.

Does each rider use the same horse for all events, or could someone show up and say "this is Flicka, she's for dressage; and Seabiscuit here is for the other two events...and over there, that's Trigger, a spare in case one of the other two gets a cold"?

When Papa died, Nana was concerned about whether or not the casket was airtight or waterproof.

Don't know what the regs were but the cemetary where my folks are buried required the casket to be in a vault.

Lil, he said my ration was 3.6

Great news! You're healthy! You're JUST FINE!

He said he "doubted" diet and exercise would help and wanted to put me on Zocor

Of course diet and exercise won't work, The human body makes as much cholesterol as it needs... and that can be up to three times the amount you eat. Your body needs cholesterol to do nifty things like 1) repair cells, 2) make hormones, 3) run an immune system. So your doctor is an idiot. I want to know what grade he got in biochem.

Of course he want to put you on a statin- you're breathing! He gets a free lunch from the pharmaceutical rep every month or something kick-back like that for putting people on statins. For most doctors, staying 'up to date' means heeding everything the pharmareps say... even if it is shoddy research... and biased by profit-based conflicts of interest. So your doctor is an unethical, intellectually anorexic, idiot.

then he wants to put me on the meds. For life, he said.

Bullcrap. Hit him with a fan.

I'm sending you a book.

Of the three day event, I saw ~some~ dressage day coverage. I came late and only got to see three horses go. I ~think~ they actually had adequate coverage, had I known where to look for it: on Bravo. This morning we watched about 2-3 hours of the cross country coverage. Cross country is hard to cover, but they had several cameras and tried to grab as much of each rider as they could.

You'll have to look for it in your local times, but here's where I know to look for more coverage still to come:

These times are Pacific time:

Wed, Aug 18 8:00 AM-12:00 Noon PT - BRAVO channel

For the three day event, must be same horse, same rider for all three days. If either is unable, the pair is out.

Labelmaker? I use address labels and a color printer, not cd-label-making stuff. I like my cute little labels, though.

Long day. Went to the bookstore after work, read some of the new "Dune" novel and picked up the Fruits Basket manga that finally came in.

At any rate, one of those that just says "Dressage Competition" will be the Freestyle, which will be the best to watch and we'll definately be taping it because I'll be at work then.

The short answer would be - look at the schedule for Bravo, that's where all the horse events are.

Somebody as neurotic as Monk is one step away from the funny farm, and it's sometimes painful, rather than funny, to watch.

Exactly. I was going to get more for tonight but I need some time to steel myself again.

I find some of the gimmicks the bad guys use to be ingenious, as are Monk's solutions. But some are howlingly wrong.

The episode I saw last night, he based a lot of his conclusions on the fact that the woman, when getting into her car, had to pull her seat forward. Ergo, someone taller had just been driving her car. Well.. ok, only I always push my seat back when I stop, it's easier to get out and then back in. No ulterior motive, at all.

Avery makes CD labels that are pretty cool, you could make some semi-professional looking CDs. They also make case insert templates.

I do too, and so do all pilots move the seat all the way back. I have seen a lot of conclusions like that that just ~arent'~ good conclusions on other mysteries.

Yep! It sounds oh-so-logical, until you realize that it's just guesswork based on his assumptions. Same thing with Sherlock Holmes.

What's the name of this book you're sending 2J? I printed out your note from yesterday and SSQ was interested. He's on Lipitor right now for high cholesterol, and frankly would prefer NOT to be. He'll understand all the Chemistry and stuff about which I have no clue, and it might help him decide what to do.
