Eleventh Thread: Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
Good point.
Heh...but Papa did have a list of what he wanted. He'd already made some of the arrangements, but he had a list of Pastors he'd worked with over the years. Last on the list was "the current Pastor of Christ Fellowship Church."
When we showed him, the Pastor said "Is there something I should know?"
OK regs state that an unembalmed body has to be buried within 24 hours...which would be hard to do unless planned out a bit ahead of time. Could be done, though, with a little planning...kinda like "pre-arrangement"
Still, I'm thinking this idea might be good for hospice or other situations where death is expected. You could transition from hospice to home funeral to burial almost seamlessly, within 24 hours I would think...with some planning. Everyone in these situations would likely be "expecting the call".
I've had bodies in a hospital room for 2 shifts...16 hours...with no change in appearance or nothin'...they just lay there. I guess they'd be alright for 24 hours, since that the regulations cut-off...
I don't know if this is really anything I'd like to do as a business, but it certainly is the way I'd want to go with a family member of mine...or myself!
Not that your funeral idea made me think of this...but what did the doctor say?
All in all, I was very impressed with the funeral home we worked with to embalm my mom. They just listened and did what we asked, there were not many offers to buy things we really didn't need, and there was no hesitation when we said there'd be no need to have to pay to transport mom to the cemetery, that we could do that, as she was cremated. I appreciated their experience, their knowing how many certified copies of the death certificate we'd need, their offer of a guest book I didn't appreciate until later, when I could flip through and see who came that I didn't see at the time.
We really threw a grand service, Frank and I. One of the best organized feats of my life. She had her wishes, she got the Baptist preacher who she had once heard sing "Climb every Mountain", and she got her dixieland band. The service and reception was a great gift from many people who came and gave us their talent and gave us their love for her.
The home we worked with for Papa didn't try to push anything on us either. Nana just wanted the best, so they showed her that. Then the sisters went in and got the best they could afford. It helped that a family friend from the church worked there on staff.
gonna go buy muh truck...see y'all later.
Just got in from the doc...well, actually, I went to the dentist afterwards and got my teeth cleaned too.
Anyways, he went over my numbers...Lil, he said my ration was 3.6 or something like that.
He said that someone at my weight had to have high cholesterol due to heredity...which I am sure is true, my rail thin dad has it too. He said he "doubted" diet and exercise would help and wanted to put me on Zocor. I must have looked truly downcast, because he immediately re-worded it to say that I should try diet and exercise for 3 months and see if I could get it down at all. If not, then he wants to put me on the meds. For life, he said.
I don't even know where to begin to change my diet. I just CHANGED my diet in March!
The only trouble with rushing to bury quickly is that you can't make much in the way of arrangements until it's really ~time~, and you can't get the word out to give people a chance to come. You'd have folk possibly wanting to come from all over the country. I think you'd make a mistake rushing so much that people didn't get a chance to come.
Cool! - Pose in front of it and post a pic when you get home!
That leaves exercise. And...don't some people say that sometimes it takes awhile to seem improvements in blood chemistry with Atkins (I'd heard six months)? So...maybe the numbers in 3 months will be better!
At least you have a little longer before you have to think about it. That's good, right?
The ratio is obtained by dividing the HDL cholesterol level into the total cholesterol. For example, if a person has a total cholesterol of 200 mg/dL and an HDL cholesterol level of 50 mg/dL, the ratio would be stated as 4:1. The goal is to keep the ratio below 5:1; the optimum ratio is 3.5:1.
Of course, I ain't a doc.
Nor do you play one on TV. Did you at least stay at a Holiday Inn last night?
I have decided to never get my cholesterol checked, nor do anything else I can't directly understand the meaning of. And I have never been able to understand cholesterol.
Well, that's what I thought too...when he told me, he even said the same thing! And I said "Well, that's good, then!" and he said "No, we need to get that high cholesterol down."
So I'm kinda confused.
I think this is the part where LF comes in with a box fan...
I've never had mine checked. But I take after my Dad's side of the family from a health standpoint, and they typically have never had problems, so I'm guessing I'm OK...
Maybe sometime at work, when there's a health clinic and they're doin' free ones. Numbers are fun, though I doubt I have anything to worry about.
Well, rats. Everyone has been sick and I thought I'd missed it, but my throat is starting to hurt and I feel shivery. Darn it! I HATE being sick. And usually I get out of it.
Starting zinc now, but it's probably too late to head this off entirely.
And now I'm off to do some cleaning before all the music folks get here. Mediocre will have to do this week...
Well, I think I'm going back to the office to get a copy of my results...so I can tell you the exact numbers.
I need to know if I'm going to research what to do.
Be back in a bit.
