New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
Too late to spam...
They're playing the Phillies. The game just started and Sosa homered in the first.
Woke you up didn't it.
Heh...I think someone put a "welcome LDS" sign in our yard today. Just had the second knock on the door.
Okay, so the first was one of our lifeguards who redid the volleyball court at the pool for his Eagle project. I had to sign his forms.
The missionaries just left. They were vey disappointed.
I keep the deer out of the garden by planting stuff they don't like--artemisia (silver mounds), speedwell, marigolds, Russian sage, lilies, and lilacs seem to work for me. Mountain ash is supposed to work according to the books but doesn't seem to.
"Sosa homered"
Homer:
Doh!
I've been getting a LOT of free plant catalogues and am having to realistically look at what I could/should get. I don't have enough yard for all that I want to try.
Although I'm vey tempted by this "non-invasive" bamboo. I could put it betwixt me and the neighbors...
Lemme see. Two guys, black slacks, white shirts, dark ties, toting knapsacks, with bicycles. Oh yeah, sweating like crazy?
Most of that stuff wouldn't have done much in my shaded yard. Also I had a lot of root competition going on too but I could get impatiens to grow and hosta in some spots. The deer eat all that and even ate my daylilies. I kinda felt like Porky Pig when the chickens were bringing cafeteria trays into his garden.
I like to get rid of the LDS people by telling them to hold on while I get my Hebrew and Greek interlinear so I can look up the original text of the verses they're quoting--they usually leave then.
I need to order some collard seeds. :)
Score tied.
D'oh!
Almost, but no bikes or knapsacks today. And it's a bit cool out...
I've always liked the LDS more than the JWs. JWs you can't get rid of with weed-killer, LDS usually go away if you ask them to.

I know that feeling! The next thing I want to try to find room for is some ginseng. Was going to try that this year but the weather didn't lend itself to it.
"Although I'm vey tempted by this "non-invasive" bamboo. I could put it betwixt me and the neighbors..."
I think it was Robert Frost who said good bamboo makes good neighbors. . .
Have you planted tulips in pots? I'm thinking I want to do that with four or five big pots. Can I just plant them at the regular time and leave them in the garage?
I'm gonna do that with onions on the deck next year too.
Okay, and mums...too soon to plant for fall color? Would they bloom now and not later?
I could offer them some birthday cake...
"I kinda felt like Porky Pig when the chickens were bringing cafeteria trays into his garden."
LOL! "Here comes Peter Cottontail. . ."
I've put in some ornamental grass that will help. Actually I'd like to add a couple more plants. So the bamboo might not look so great there. Still, I liked the looks of it in the catalogue.
Mmmm--popcorn vendor. . .
